Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I was only eight years old when I became the king of my country. I lived in Judah. Who am I?

Answer: Josiah

Josiah was not the youngest king to ever serve in Judah. The kingdom of Israel had been divided into two separate nations after the reign of King Solomon and Judah consisted of the southern part of what had been Israel. Israel had its own kings during the time of the divided kingdoms.
(2 Chronicles 34:1)
2. I was only seven years old when I took the throne of my nation. I lived in Judah, and my people thought I was cool. They did everything I asked without any problem...until...well, later. Who am I?

Answer: Joash

Joash may have been the youngest person to ever serve in the capacity of king in Judah's history. His reign seemed to begin on a positive note, but interestingly, things changed later when he began to allow idol worshipping.
(2 Chronicles 24:1)
3. I had to reprimand one of my high priests because his underlings failed to do as I had requested. Jehoiada was his name, and since he supervised the priests that served under his authority, I went to him with my problem. Who am I?

Answer: Joash

At the king's command, a chest was made to receive offerings for the repair of the temple. This served as a type of "automatic offering box." Money was collected each day until there were enough funds to accomplish the task.
(2 Chronicles 24:1-14)
4. When Hilkiah, the high priest during my reign, found the Law and temple money in the filth of the neglected temple, I commanded that the Law be read and the temple cleaned up. God promised me that I would not have to witness the punishment of my people while I lived. Who am I?

Answer: Josiah

This story of the reading of the Law is interesting in that when the king heard the words of the Law, he rent (tore) his clothes and sent Hilkiah and four other men to enquire of the Lord for him.
(2 Chronicles 34:18-21)
5. How old was Jehoiada, the high priest for one of Judah's kings, when he died?

Answer: 130 years old

Upon Jehoida's death, it seemed that Joash stopped being such a good king, and almost immediately did something evil.
(2 Chronicles 24:17-22)
6. After Jehoiada's death, what did the princes of Judah ask the king to sanction?

Answer: a return to the worship of idols

They asked Joash to allow them to serve "groves and idols". Even though he tried to persuade them otherwise (after the fact), they ignored him.
(2 Chronicles 24:17-20)
7. Zechariah, the surviving son of Jehoiada, confronted the princes of Judah about their worship of idols in 2 Chronicles 24:21-22. How did these princes respond?

Answer: they stoned him to death with the permission of King Joash

2 Chronicles 24:21-22 states that they stoned him at the commandment of King Joash and that, because the king did "not remember the kindness" of Zechariah's father, Jehoida, the high priest, that God would require it and take him to account. In verse 25, we see that the king's own servants conspired to kill him and that he was not buried in the city of David (Jerusalem) as most of the good kings were.
8. When King Josiah sent the delegation of five men to seek the word of the Lord for him, to whom did he send them for this inquiry? (2 Chronicles 34:22)

Answer: Huldah, a prophetess

These five men went to a prophetess, whose name was Huldah, and she told them to tell the king that, indeed, God would bring evil "upon this place." She further told them that Josiah would not have to witness this event as God would allow him to live out his life without having to see the punishment, because of his obedience and his pure heart.
(2 Chronicles 34:22-29)
9. In the eighteenth year of his reign, the Jewish "Seder" or Passover meal was kept by King Josiah in a manner unlike any other since the days of a particular Old Testament prophet. Which Old Testament prophet is referred to in 2 Chronicles 35:18?

Answer: Samuel

Nearly the entire 35th chapter is devoted to the relaying of the details of this Passover; it must have been a hum-dinger. Sadly, the last part of the chapter tells of the good king Josiah's death.
10. When King Josiah of Judah died, the whole country of Judah and the whole city of Jerusalem mourned for him. One of the Old Testament prophets is mentioned by name in lamenting Josiah's passing. Which one?

Answer: Jeremiah

Jeremiah is frequently referred to as the "Weeping Prophet". He cried over Jerusalem in the book with his name, and in a type of alphabetical Hebrew poetry, he lamented over Jerusalem in the book of Lamentations. He wept for King Josiah in 2 Chronicles 35:25.
