Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When I Chronicles begins, who is the first person mentioned?

Answer: Adam

The book of I Chronicles covers a period of forty years. It begins with Adam and goes through his family tree. Abel and Cain are not mentioned as children of Adam. Seth is the only child of Adam's that is listed in I Chronicles.

II Chronicles covers a period of four hundred and fifty years. Solomon is the first person mentioned in the book of II Chronicles.
2. After the death of Saul, who did God make king in I Chronicles 10 (KJV)?

Answer: David

David was anointed king while he was at Hebron. The Israelites admitted that even though Saul was their king, David had always been the one to help them. David's first act as king was to capture Jerusalem and after that it was known as the City of David.
3. In I Chronicles 11 (KJV), David made Benaiah captain of his guard after hearing that Benaiah had killed a man with the man's own spear. Where did this man live?

Answer: Egypt

Benaiah was the son of Jehoiada, a descendant of Simeon. Benaiah had killed a seven and a half foot Egyptian man with the man's own spear. Before that he had killed two lionlike Moabites and a lion stuck in a pit. For his actions, David made Benaiah head of the guard.
4. Who was killed after touching the ark of the covenant to steady it in I Chronicles 13 (KJV)?

Answer: Uzza

Uzza was a Levite and Levites were the only group allowed to carry the Ark of the Covenant because they were priests. Uzza helped move the ark onto a cart and out of Abinadab's house. On their way to the threshing floor of Chidon where the ark would stay, Uzza placed his hand on the ark to steady it when the oxen stumbled. God became angry because his orders to not touch the ark were disobeyed and Uzza immediately died. David became fearful of God's power and sent the ark to stay with Obededom for three months. David named the spot where Uzza died Perez Uzza.
5. After David disobeyed God and numbered the Israelites in I Chronicles 21 (KJV), God gave him choices of punishment. Which one did David choose?

Answer: Three days of plague

David was tempted by Satan to number the Israelite men who could fight even though God told him never to do that. Joab, David's troop commander, pleaded with him not to do it, but David insisted. Joab's count came back with one million one hundred thousand men who could fight including four hundred seventy thousand men in Judah. Joab still didn't like what David had ordered him to do so he didn't count the men in the tribes of Levi or Benjamin.

David realized God was angry with him for what he did and asked not to be punished for his arrogance and disobedience. God told David he could have a choice of three punishments for him and the Israelites. He could either endure three years of famine, three months of running from enemies, or three days of a horrible plague.

David said he would rather be punished by God than by his enemies so he chose three days of plague. With David's choice, seventy thousand Israelites died.

(FYI, three days of wandering alone in the wilderness was never a choice God gave David.)
6. On what mountain did Solomon decide to build the temple in II Chronicles 3 (KJV)?

Answer: Moriah

Solomon decided to build the temple on Mount Moriah where his father built an altar to God after the plague. Solomon began the construction of the temple on the second day of the second month in the fourth year of his reign.

The foundation of the house was ninety feet long and thirty feet wide. The porch was thirty feet long and thirty feet high. The inside of the house was bathed in pure gold and jewels and Solomon had cherubim drawn on the walls. Solomon put a bronze altar in the temple. He had five basins put on the north wall and five basins put on the south wall for washing sacrifices. Five lamp stands were put next to the basins on both walls.

Five years after Solomon's death, the building became a temple for Baal.
7. When Solomon died in II Chronicles 9 (KJV), which one of his children took over as king?

Answer: Rehoboam

Solomon's reign over Judah lasted forty years and then he died and was buried within the city of David. Solomon's oldest son, Rehoboam, was made king while he was in Shechem. He didn't want to be a good king and Israel rebelled against him.

Rehoboam had eighteen wives along with sixty concubines. Together with his wives and concubines he had sixty daughters and twenty-eight sons. He reigned seventeen years as king and was buried in the city of David. His son, Abijah, took over as king.
8. How was Queen Athalia killed in II Chronicles 23 (KJV)?

Answer: Stabbed

Athalia was a descendant of Benjamin. Queen Athalia was wicked and led her son, King Ahaziah, to be a wicked king as well. Due to his wickedness, King Ahaziah was killed along with his sons. When Queen Athaliah learned that her son had been killed, she had the rest of the royal family killed. It was only due to the bravery of a princess that Ahaziah's youngest son, Joash, and his nurse were kept from being killed. The young boy remained hidden for six years while Athaliah cruelly ruled Judah.

Seven years later, the young boy was brought out of the temple and declared king by the people of Judah. Athaliah heard the news and reacted strongly. Jehoida, the priest, had Queen Athaliah brought out to a horse gate at the palace and stabbed to death. After her death all the idols were destroyed and Joash was made king of Judah at age seven.
9. According to II Chronicles 29 (KJV), under which king's reign was Solomon's temple cleansed and reopened?

Answer: Hezekiah

Hezekiah was twenty-five when he became king after his father Ahaz died. Hezekiah was considered a good king. He had the temple doors repaired and brought in the priests of Levi to sanctify the temple. The Levite priests took eight days to sanctify the temple.

The priests brought back all the vessels that Ahaz had gotten rid of and sanctified them so they could be put back into the temple. After the temple had been sanctified, Hezekiah had an offering burnt in the temple before he reopened it.
10. Who was king of Jerusalem when the book of II Chronicles came to an end?

Answer: Zedekiah

Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king. Zedekiah wasn't a good king. Under his rule, Nebuchadnezzar returned to Judah for the third time and blocked the people from leaving or supplies from getting in to the city. Without food and water, the people tried to run away and were captured. The only people that were left to work the land were the poor people.
