Anterograde amnesia is the disorder that disallows the creation of all or most new memories. Like many disorders of the brain, anterograde amnesia remains a mystery but some causes have been noted; traumatic brain injury, blackouts from alcohol intoxification and drug use to name a few. The area of the brain involved with this disorder is the temporal cortex.

Retrograde amnesia involves forgetting past events but current events are kept in the memory bank. Psychogenic amnesia is from psychological stresses and is the inability to remember personal information, autobiographical information if you will.

In "50 First Dates" Lucy was stuck in time on Sunday, October 13. On that date, she was involved in a serious car accident with her father. She suffered a traumatic brain injury and developed anterograde amnesia.

Electroconvulsive therapy is used for a variety of psychiatric conditions including catatonia, severe depression and mania. Specifically, ECT helps in cases of severe depression with a refusal to eat, suicide attempts or depression that is not responding to other treatments. ECT is used to end episodes of severe mania. Some examples of catatonia or catatonic states are lack of movement, severe body rigidity and stupor. ECT is a treatment option, as some drug classes may worsen the condition.

The award-winning movie, "One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest" had a "shock shop" for ECT. The patients in the mental institution had regular ECT treatments and also received the therapy as a result of a misdeed or action deemed inappropriate.

For example, he ate at the same place for breakfast everyday, sitting at the same table with the same waitress taking care of his order. His mysophobia was apparent when he brought plastic utensils for his meal each day. Jack won an Academy Award for Best Actor with this film.

Allie was the character who had the debilitating disease.

Attention deficit disorder is inattentiveness causing problems in daily life with things such as studies and organization skills. Obsessive compulsive disorder is an anxiety disorder that causes the performance of repetitive behaviors to reduce the stress. Gynophobia is a fear of women.

Answer: Claustrophobia

Claustrophobia is the fear of tight or enclosed spaces and can include a fear of not being able to escape. "The Descent" told a tale of women trapped while exploring caves. They experienced lots of tight spaces and ugly creatures chasing them.(No thanks!)

Algophobia is the fear of pain. Chiroptophobia is a fear of bats. Pyrophobia is a fear of fire.
