Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I'm in Microsoft Word '97 and want to write a document that includes names of hyperlinks. Logically enough, as I want to print this document I don't want these to appear as links (just like words and stuff) what do I do?

Answer: Tools-AutoCorrect-AutoFormat As You Type-Uncheck Internet and Network paths with hyperlinks

You need to do this before typing, not after pasting and it'll work a treat.
2. What does this crazy computer term mean - dot pitch?

Answer: a measurement that indicates the diagonal distance between like-colored phosphor dots on a display screen

Also called the phosphor pitch and measured in millimeters, the dot pitch is one of the principal characteristics that determines the quality of display monitors. The lower the number, the crisper the image. The dot pitch of color monitors for personal computers ranges from about 0.15 mm to 0.30 mm.
3. Name the top dude at the Oracle Corporation (as of March 1 2003)?

Answer: Larry Ellison

Larry, a great rival of Bill's, is also one of the richest men on the planet and doesn't mind talking about it either.
4. If you ask the Microsoft Word '97's magical 'help' paper clip to do something useful for once and tell you 'how do I get to piccadilly from here' what options does he reply with?

Answer: Get the latest version of web authoring tools

I cannot confirm rumours that future versions of Mr Paperclip will include a 'sense of humour' module.
5. In HTML what does the PRE tag do?

Answer: Everything you type between these tags will be displayed as it has been typed

Sometimes it can be easier to use this than adding in loads of paragraph and line break tags which can be very frustrating.
6. In Microsoft Excel '97, if I hit CTRL+B in a cell before typing in it, the resultant type would be bold.

Answer: True

Yes, uninterestingly enough, it would - the cell has been emboldened even though it was empty.
7. On a French keyboard, where would you find the A?

Answer: Where the Q is on a QWERTY keyboard

No those crazy French people don't have the same keyboard. It's almost the same but just different enough to really annoy you such as you have to hit shift to get to the numbers on top of the keyboard instead of the symbols.
8. What does SAN stand for?

Answer: Storage Area Network

It's a network that is placed parallel to a Local Area Network and deals with all storage and backup needs.
9. Name the largest European software company (as of March 2003).

Answer: SAP

All of the others are American.
10. According to official EU trade figures, name the European country that produces the most computer software.

Answer: Ireland

You can't throw a decent-sized stick in Ireland without hitting a software company - it's not only Europe's largest producer of software but also the world's second largest behind the good old US of A. Hope you enjoyed the quiz!
