On May 16, the Dodgers were hosted by the Cubs at Wrigley Field. In the ninth inning, a drunken fan reached over the bullpen railing and punched Chad Kreuter in the back of his head, then stole his cap. The fireworks began after that. The Dodger players suspended were Kreuter, Carlos Perez, F.P. Santangelo, Gary Sheffield, Mike Fetters, Terry Adams, Darren Dreifort, Eric Gagne, Onan Masaoka, Alan Mills, Antonio Osuna, Chan Ho Park, Geronimo Berroa, Shawn Green, Todd Hundley, Eric Karros, Glenn Hoffman, Rick Dempsey, and John Shelby.

The Dodgers still won the game, 6-5.
