Answer: July 9, 2006

2. Which two teams faced off against one another in the final?

Answer: Italy and France

Italy made it to the final by defeating Germany in a span of approximately 2 minutes in second half extra time. France made it to the final by defeating Portugal on a penalty shot by Zinedine Zidane.
3. In what city of Germany was the 2006 World Cup final played?

Answer: Berlin

Seeing as the World Cup was being played in Germany, it only seemed fitting that the final would be played in its capital city of 3.39 million people. Its stadium was involved in a massive reconstruction project that would put up all of its attributes to World Cup regulations.
4. What was the score at the end of the first half of the World Cup final?

Answer: 1-1

France started off the scoring early in the game with a penalty shot by Zinedine Zidane. The Italians tied it shortly after with a header off a corner kick by Materazzi.
5. What was the score at the end of the World Cup final?

Answer: 1-1

With absolutely no change in the score, the game was forced to go into extra time. Although there was a shot that seemed to beat France's Fabien Barthez, it was quickly waved off. With nothing in extra time either, the game went into a penalty shootout.
6. Who won the World Cup?

Answer: Italy

Italy and France, deadlocked at one goal apiece, went into the penalty shootout, where the pressure of winning has a high chance of getting to the players. It turned out, however, that everyone but France's David Trezeguet ended up scoring on their respective penalties. France's single miss resulted in their upset from the World Cup final.
7. Who scored the first goal against Italy, their first conceded goal since an own goal against the United States in the group stage?

Answer: Zinedine Zidane

Materazzi tripped up France's Malouda, in the penalty box, and ended up conceding a penalty in the early going. Zidane fired the ball, hit the crossbar and saw it bounce right into the net, merely inches ahead of the goal line. Luckily, the Italians tied it up no more than 13 minutes later.
8. Which of France's players got the red card?

Answer: Zinedine Zidane

Zinedine Zidane and Materazzi of Italy were talking about something unknown to the viewer of the match. After seemingly walking away, Zidane followed up by quickly turning around and headbutting Materazzi in the chest, earning him an instant red-card.
9. Who won the Golden Boot award as goals leader of the World Cup?

Answer: Miroslav Klose

Although his team was eliminated in the semi-finals, and won third place against Portugal, Miroslav Klose retained his standing as goals leader, which he established after the first game of the World Cup. Zidane ended with a total of 4 goals, and Crespo ended with a total of 3 goals.
10. In the penalty shootout that resulted because of the stalemate, it ended up being a goal fiesta. All but one player scored on their opportunities. Which player's blunder ended up leading the other team to victory?

Answer: David Trezeguet

As opposed to every other player on the pitch, Trezeguet missed his penalty shot. He fired high right, trying to beat the goalkeeper. He did beat the goalkeeper, but unfortunately hit the crossbar, which kindly deflected the ball away.
