1. Which pitcher set a record for giving up 14 hits in a game and still pitched a shutout?

Answer: Milt Gaston

Gaston, while pitching for the Washington Senators gave up 14 hits against Cleveland on July 10, 1928, and still did the shutout thing. Milt went 6-12 in the season and threw three shutouts.
2. Which Chicago Cubs pitcher set a record for batting 0-for-70 in a season?

Answer: Bob Buhl

Buhl struck out 36 times in 1962 also. He went hitless in one game with the Braves, was traded, then another 69 with the Cubs. After 15 seasons, Bob retired with a .089 batting average.
3. Cap Anson retired from baseball in 1898 and was well known for his racial prejudice. How many games did he win as a manager?

Answer: 1296

In 2288 career games as a manager, he won 1296 of them. Four games were won with Philadelphia, nine with the New York Giants, and the rest with the Chicago White Stockings/Colts (later Cubs).
4. Who was the first pitcher in history to win three games in a World Series?

Answer: Bill Dineen

The others listed all won three in a series. 1903 saw the first World Series pitting the American League against the National League. It was a best of nine series. Dineen was a Boston Pilgrim who defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates. Another Pilgrim pitcher won two games in the series. His name was Cy Young.
5. The great St. Louis Cardinal Stan Musial hit 475 home runs in his career. How many of those were inside the park home runs?

Answer: 9

Not known for his speed as his season high was only nine stolen bases, the great one out-legged nine in his career with the Cardinals from 1941-1963. Roberto Clemente of the Pirates had 10 in his career, and the speedster Lou Brock, tied Musial with nine.
6. In the first season of Major League baseball without Babe Ruth, who led the Majors in home runs?

Answer: Lou Gehrig

Ironically, it was the Babe's former teammate. Ruth's last season was in 1935 with the Boston Braves. Gehrig hit 49 for the Yankees to lead the Majors in 1936. Foxx and Greenberg led the Majors in 1935, and DiMaggio led both leagues in 1937 with 46.
7. Who was the first National League pitcher to throw three no-hitters?

Answer: Larry Corcoran

Corcoran did this for the Chicago White Stockings (later Cubs) in 1880, 1882, and 1884. In his eight-year career, 5-1/2 seasons were with Chicago were he won 175 games against 85 losses. In 1887, he retired at age 27 and died just four years later.
8. How many Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers in the first 100 seasons of the Major Leagues, won 28 or more games in a season?

Answer: 2

Dazzy Vance won 28 in 1924, and Joe McGinnity won 28 in 1900. Sandy Koufax won 27 in 1966 and Don Newcombe won 27 in 1956.
9. Which New York Giant pitcher set a National League record for walking 16 batters in a nine inning game?

Answer: Bill George

In only 13 games as a rookie in 1887, George also allowed 63 earned runs along with walking 89 batters, with another 14 hit by a pitch. To add insult to injury, in 1887, a batter required five balls before they walked. Bill's career lasted only three seasons and retired in 1889.
10. Who was the first pitcher in history to hit three home runs in a single game?

Answer: Jim Tobin

Jim Tobin of the 1942 Boston Braves did it. His home run season total was six. Ironically, he did not produce from the pitchers mound as his win-loss record for the season was 12-21. His career home run total was 17 in nine seasons.
