Soriano was drafted from the Columbus Clippers (AAA) in 1999. His first ever game was on the 14th September, when he pinch ran, and then flew out. Ten days later he had his first Major League hit, and on October 3rd he had his first start in the Major Leagues. His first full season was in 2001. The 2002 date is significant, as that is when he hit his 30th homerun of the season.

When he hit a Home Run against Seattle on August 18th, 2002, he became the first Second Baseman in MLB history to achieve 30 Home Runs and 30 Stolen Bases. In 2001 Soriano was third in the American League for the number of stolen bases, with 43. In 2002 Soriano was only one Home Run short of joining the even more prestigious 40-40 club.
