The game is regulated in Ireland by the Gaelic Athletic Associaton (GAA), and in England by the National Rounders Association (NRA).

Answer: 6

The maximum number of players that can be on a team is 15, the maximum number of players on the field being 9. There is a requirement to have a bowler and a backstop, irrelevant of how many players are on the team.

The full title of the book, by John Newbery, is 'A Little Pretty Pocket-Book, intended for the Amusement of Little Master Tommy and Pretty Miss Polly with Two Letters from Jack the Giant Killer'. This book is considered to be the first children's book.
The book consisted of a series of rhymes and either came with a ball or a pincushion, dependant upon whether the child was male or female.
Rounders is also mentioned in "Northanger Abbey", by Jane Austen.
Rounders has been played in England since Tudor times, and baseball is thought to originate from the game of rounders, however there is dispute regarding this.
4. How many bases are there in rounders?

Answer: 4

The bases have to be a minimum of one metre high and stand upright, supporting themselves. With regard to children playing rounders, the posts are higher for health and safety reasons, and can expand to 4'6" in height.
5. If a player doesn't hit the ball and completes a rounder, what score is awarded to that player?

Answer: A half rounder

If a player hits the ball within the fielding area and successfully negotiates all four bases, a 'full' rounder is scored. If a player hits the ball backwards, then the player has to remain at first base until the ball is returned in to play. If the player reaches 4th base when the ball is returned from the 'backward' area, then a full rounder is scored in these circumstances. If the player reaches second base in these circumstances, a half rounder is scored.
Penalty half rounders are given when either a fielder causes an obstruction, or there are 2 consecutive no-balls to the same batter.
6. What is the distance between bases on a rounders field?

Answer: 12 metres

In the Irish version of rounders, the bases are 25 metres apart, similar to major league baseball, where the bases are 27.4 metres apart, however in baseball there are 3 bases, as opposed to 4 in both rounders and cluiche corr.
7. When was the National Rounders Association formed?

Answer: 1943

In 1943, the Women's Team Games Board, decided that there was a need to form the National Rounders Association, which would be responsible for the rules of the game and organising national tests for coaches and umpires. In 1889, the Liverpool and Scottish Rounders Association had been formed.

The first formalised rules of the game originated in Ireland in 1884, however the National Rounders Association are in possession of a set of rules for the game which were printed in 1882.

Other ways to be out in rounders include your foot being over the front or backline of the batting square, before missing or hitting a ball and overtaking.

A ball is also considered a no-ball if there isn't a smooth underarm action, the ball is above the head or below the knee of the batter, the ball is wide or straight at the body, or the bowlers foot is outside the bowling square during the bowling action.

Answer: Rotherham, England

The 2008 Rounders World Festival was held at Rotherham, England, on 28th June.
Teams participating were England, Wales, Iran and China. There is a Rounders Association in Pakistan, and in 2006 Pakistan hosted its first national competition.
