Answer: 1986 - Edinburgh

England scraped though against Australia at the Edinburgh Games, although lost badly at the next four games. In 1994 at Edmonton, Canada, Australia won a record 87 Gold Medals, whereas England only managed 31.

Answer: Australia 27-9

Australia won 27 Davis Cups in the first hundred years (its 27th was in 1999). Australia competed as Australasia in the early years of the competition, together with New Zealand. Great Britain won four consecutive Davis Cups in the early years, as the British Isles 1903-04-05-06, but then faded somewhat, winning their 9th Davis Cup back in 1936.

Australia also won the 1999 World Cup, defeating South Africa in the semi-finals. South Africa beat England 44-21 in the quarter-finals.
