Answer: Tris Speaker

Of those listed, only Tris Speaker played baseball in 1912. He smacked 53 two-baggers, to set a 20th century record, while playing for the Boston Red Sox. He would do this 4 more times in his career, including 59 in 1923. He led the league 9 times for doubles in a season.

He retired ranked #1 in career doubles. At the end of the century, he was still more than 250 ahead of any active player. His record will stand for decades to come.

Answer: Yankees

The Yankees were the only team listed that existed in 1950. They won their 2nd of 5 consecutive World Series in 1950, against the Phillies 4 games to 0.

He retired in 1964 with the White Sox. He came out of retirement, and played one season with the White Sox in 1976, then retired again.

In 1980, once again he was out of retirement, and played with the White Sox at the age of 57.

Answer: 50

Hunt, bruises and all, set the record in 1971 with the Montreal Expos. He walked 58 times in 1971. Ron was hit 243 times in 12 seasons throughout his career. The next closest 20th century sore one, was Don Baylor of the Red Sox, who was hit 35 times in 1986.

Although these were all great managers, the Manager of the Year Award did not begin until 1983, with Tom Lasorda and Tony LaRussa being the first recepients.

Answer: Charley Radbourn

No player listed other than Radbourn, was born yet in 1884. Charley, nicknamed 'Old Hoss', pitched for the Providence Grays in 1884. His record was 59-12, and appeared in a tiring 75 games in the 112 game season. He had 441 strikeouts, and an ERA of 1.38.

This southpaw created some unreachable marks in baseball history. He retired with the Cincinnati Reds in 1891. Guy Hecker of the Louisville Eclipse also reached the 50-mark in 1884 by winning 52, however, Radbourn was the first to reach it.
