Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Between August 2000 and August 2007, England played their home games at numerous club grounds due to the demolition and rebuilding of Wembley. Which of these stadiums did *not* host an England game in that period?

Answer: St Andrews' (Birmingham City)

St Andrews' didn't host an Englnad international during this period. All the others hosted one game. Portman Road hosted England's 3-1 victory over Croatia in a friendly match in August 2003. The Riverside Stadium was the venue for a Euro 2004 qualifier in June 2003, in which England beat Slovakia 2-1. Pride Park's only international came in May 2001 when England beat Mexico 4-0 in a friendly. Old Trafford hosted the most England games, 14.

Stamford Bridge followed with 4 matches, while St James' Park, Anfield, and Villa Park all hosted three matches. The City of Manchester Stadium held 2 games. Other stadiums to host one game over this period are the Stadium of Light, Walkers Stadium, St Mary's Stadium, Upton Park, and White Hart Lane.
2. Which of the following grounds did not host games during the 1966 World Cup?

Answer: St James' Park (Newcastle United)

St James' Park in Newcastle was due to host Group 4 games along with Sunderland's Roker Park. However, an arguement between Newcastle United and Newcastle City Council over the installation of temporary seating for the competition, forced the stadium to be withdrawn and replaced by Ayresome Park in Middlesbrough.

Other grounds to host games were Wembley, Goodison Park, and White City Athletics Stadium in London.
3. Which of the following grounds did not host games during the 1996 European Championships?

Answer: Goodison Park (Everton)

Goodison Park did not feature, but its near neighbour Anfield did. Other grounds to feature games were Wembley, Old Trafford, Villa Park, and Hillsborough.

Answer: Filbert Street

Leicester moved into Filbert Street in 1891, when they were known as Leicester Fosse. They left for the nearby Walkers Stadium in 2002.

The Manor Ground is where Oxford United used to play between 1925 and 2001, while the Victoria Ground was Stoke City's home venue for 119 before they left in 1997. Burnden Park had been Bolton Wanderers' ground for 102 years until their move to the Reebok Stadium in 1997.
5. You're standing in Borough Road. Which ground are you next to?

Answer: Prenton Park (Tranmere Rovers)

Borough Road runs alongside Tranmere's Prenton Park ground.
6. Which club's former ground included the Fulwell End?

7. The home gorund of Milton Keynes Dons is commonly known as Denbigh Stadium. What is its official name?

Answer: Stadium:mk

Stadium:mk was officially opened in November 2007, although the MK Dons had been playing in it since July 2007. Previously, the club had played at the National Hockey Stadium. The club made a controversial move from London to Milton Keynes in 2004. Before this, they were called Wimbledon and played in South London.

9. This Premiership stadium originally opened in 1882, but underwent major reconstruction in the 1990s and 2000s. What is the stadium?

Answer: Ewood Park (Blackburn Rovers)

Ewood Park is the second oldest ground in the Premier League (though the oldest with its present occupiers). St James' Park pre-dated it, with football matches having been played there since the 1870s, although Newcastle United didn't move until 1892, following their move from the east end of the city. Anfield opened in 1884 as the home of Everton. Following their departure in 1892, the landlord formed a new club, Liverpool to play at the ground. Old Trafford is a relative newcomer in comparison, having opened in 1910.
10. You would get off the train at Northumberland Park station if you were visiting which stadium?

Answer: White Hart Lane (Tottenham Hotspur)

Berwick Rangers play in Northumberland (despite being a Scottish league club), and Newcastle United used to until the creation of Tyne and Wear, but if you got off at Northumberland Park station, you'd be a long way from either.
It would be a bit of a hike to the Emirates, but not too far from White Hart Lane.
