Colchester Town were founded in 1874, but it wasn't until 1937 when Colchester United evolved from that club.
2. Who was the first manager in the club's history?

Answer: Ted Fenton

Ted Fenton was Colchester's manager between 1946-48, and was replaced by Jimmy Allen (1948-53), followed by Butler (1953-55), and Benny Fenton managed the club between 1955-63.
Note: Ted Davis was part-time Secretary-Manager 1936-37, followed by Syd Fieldus after the war for one season: 1945-46. The first manager was Ted Fenton.
3. Which top-flight team did Colchester beat in a 1970-71 FA Cup 5th Round match?

Answer: Leeds United

The game took place on 13th February, 1971 at Layer Road, when Colchester ran out 3-2 winners. They were thumped 5-0 by Everton in the quarter-finals, and Leeds went on to finish as runners-up of Division One to Arsenal who completed the double of League and FA Cup triumphs.
4. Which of these made the most League appearances for the club?

Answer: Micky Cook

Cook played 613 League games for Colchester, between 1969-84.
5. When the club were relegated from the Football League in 1989-90, they were promoted again two years later, in 1991-92. How many games did they lose in the promotion season?

Season 1990-91 saw the club finish second to Barnet, but a year later, were promoted again with 94 points. Wycombe Wanderers had the same amount of points, but it was Colchester's Championship as they had a +9 better goal difference.
