1. Which of these four was the oldest to play in a postseason game?

Answer: Jack Quinn

Quinn was with the Philadelphia Athletics in 1930. As the Athletics went into the World Series against the Cardinals, fans saw the 47-year old Quinn step up to the mound in relief in game three. Philadelphia won the series four games to two. Jack pitched from 1909-1933 in 23 seasons for eight teams.

He appeared in three World Series with a record of 0-1. His career season record was 247-218. Moyer was 45 the final time he appeared in a postseason game. Paige was 42 in his only postseason appearance in 1948 with the Indians. Minnie Minoso was a position player and never saw a postseason game.
2. Who was the first player in history to be walked intentionally five times in the same game?

Answer: Andre Dawson

Andre Dawson played for 21 seasons from 1976-1996 with four teams. In 1990, he was a Chicago Cub when he set this record. On May 22, in a game against the visiting Reds, Dawson was walked intentionally five times, twice by Tom Browning, twice by Scott Scudder, and once by Tim Birtsas. Dawson did have a single and a stolen base in the 2-1 win over the Reds.
3. Who was the first pitcher banned for life from baseball?

Answer: Jim Devlin

Devlin was a Louisville Gray in 1877 during his third and final season of baseball. With the Grays having a huge lead in the league, they eventually lost the pennant to the Boston Red Stockings in a short time. The Grays were accused to 'tanking' games and throwing away their huge league lead.

After an investigation and showing that Devlin had come into a large amount of unaccounted money, he and shortstop Bill Craver along with Al Nichols were banned for life for connections with New York gamblers. Devlin was never reinstated even though many appeals were filed.
4. Which Hall of Fame great was the first in history to have more than 150 RBIs in seven seasons during his career?

Answer: Lou Gehrig

Arguably, Gehrig was in the top five of the greatest all-around players in baseball history. He spent his entire career with the Yankees from 1923-1939. His remarkable list of RBIs were in 1927, 1930-1932, 1934, 1936 and 1937. Lou won two AL MVPs and was runner-up another two times. His Hall induction took place in 1939 and he died in 1941.
5. Which World Series pitcher gave up a ninth inning inside-the-park home run and lost the game?

Answer: Joe Bush

It was the 1923 World Series with the Giants and Yankees going at it for the third consecutive World Series. The Giants won the first two World Series. The ninth inning of the third series in game one saw a 4-4 tie until New York Giant outfielder Casey Stengel came to bat in the ninth with two outs. Off Bullet Joe Bush of the Yankees, Casey hit the ball deep to center and rounded the bases like there was no tomorrow to take a 5-4 lead and an eventual game win for the Giants. Stengel also hit a solo home run in game three of the series to give the Giants a 1-0 win.

The Yankees went on to win their first-ever World Series four games to two.
6. Which National League team was the first in history to not win even 10 games in a season?

Answer: Cincinnati Reds

It was the first season of the National League in 1876. The Reds had a .139 win percentage with their 9-56 record. They finished 42.5 games behind the pennant-winning Chicago White Stockings. The Reds were managed by Charlie Gould. Their bench had no .300 hitters and the two pitchers that led the team were Dory Dean and Cherokee Fisher who both won only four games each, then Dale Williams won the other one.

The franchise lasted only five seasons and shut their doors in 1880.
7. Who was the first player to hit a grand slam in both games of a doubleheader?

Answer: Robin Ventura

Ventura was a New York Met on May 20, 1999. In the first game of a doubleheader he hit a grand slam off Milwaukee Brewer Jim Abbott in the first inning which helped the Mets win 11-10. For a curtain-call in the second game, Ventura tagged pitcher Horacio Estrada in the fourth inning in the 10-1 Mets win. Robin hit 32 home runs in the season and finished sixth in the NL MVP voting.
8. Who was the first player in American League history to wear the number 13 on their back?

Answer: Bill Shores

Shores played in six seasons from 1928-1936. When he was a rookie with the Philadelphia Athletics in 1928, the American League had not mandated uniform numbers. The league eventually did in 1931 and Shores selected the number 13. Shores had a 26-15 career record from the mound.

He appeared in only one World Series game in 1931 while having an ERA of 13.50 in the Athletics' 5-0 loss to the Cardinals in game three. St. Louis went on to win the series four games to three.
9. Which National League pitcher was the first to throw a no-hitter in his debut, his first-ever game?

Answer: Charles Jones

On October 15, 1892, with the Cincinnati Reds, Jones appeared in his only game of the season on the final day of the season. He and the Reds went up against the Pittsburgh Pirates. After walking the first two batters, the 22-year old right hander settled down and completed the game with four walks to win the game for the Reds. Nicknamed 'Bumpus' he pitched in only two seasons with the Reds and Giants with a career record of 2-4 and then quit baseball.
10. Who was the first player in history to be hit by a pitch in his first-ever at-bat, then quit the game?

Answer: Fred Van Dusen

Van Dusen debuted on September 11, 1955. In his only Major League at-bat, the 18-year old came in as a pinch-hitter for the Philadelphia Phillies and was then plucked by Braves pitcher Humberto Robinson. After that Van Dusen never took the field and never played in Major League Baseball again. The Braves won the game 9-1 but that was it for Fred.
