Answer: Toronto Blue Jays

No team in the National League topped the 200 home run plateau, while the Blue Jays, Astros, Orioles, and Yankees surpassed the mark. Toronto led both leagues with their total of 232. The Blue Jays were led by Josh Donaldson's 41 and Jose Bautista's 40. The other teams listed never even hit 140 home runs in that season.

Answer: 1920s

After seeing perfect game number three in 1904 ,thrown by the great Cy Young, then the fourth in the same decade, both leagues went dry until Don Larsen's World Series perfect game in 1956. That is all except for one day. That day was April 30, 1922, when Charlie Robertson of the Chicago White Sox put up all the zeroes against the Tigers in a 2-0 win. Robertson went only 14-15 in the season.

Answer: Nolan Ryan

Ryan was the free-pass king of baseball. By the turn of the century he remained the only pitcher to even reach the 2000 plateau. When Nolan retired in 1993 after 27 seasons, he compiled 2795 walks. He was also the strikeout king of baseball retiring with 5714, the only pitcher to reach 5000 strikeouts when he retired also.

Answer: Buffalo Blues

The Grays from Milwaukee existed in only one season. In that 1878 season the team went 15-45. The Louisville Grays were one of the eight inaugural teams in the National League in 1876. The team closed their doors after only two seasons. The Indianapolis Blues lasted only one season in 1878.

The Blues from Buffalo were found only in the Federal League in 1915. The team evolved from the Buffalo Buffeds after the 1914 season in the FL. The Federal League lasted only two seasons after trying to become the third Major League.

Answer: Don Newcombe

All these greats won the Cy Young Award but it was Newcombe of the Brooklyn Dodgers who won the inaugural award in 1956. Only one pitcher won the award throughout all of Major League Baseball each season until 1967 when it was awarded one to each league.

After winning the Rookie of the Year Award in 1949, Newcombe went on have a bigger season in 1956, winning the Cy Young, the NL MVP, and the TSN Pitcher of the Year Award. He won the Cy Young Award over teammate Sal Maglie, Yankee Whitey Ford, and the Braves' Warren Spahn.

Answer: 1957

Chapman died shortly after the submarine pitch from Carl Mays of the Yankees hit him. The Indians went on to win the 1920 World Series over Brooklyn in honor of their shortstop. Although many players were wearing some type of batting helmet off and on throughout the years, it was not until 1957 that commissioner Ford Frick mandated them.

Answer: Joe McCarthy

Both Casey Stengel and McCarthy led all these managers with an amazing seven crowns each. Those 14 titles were all obtained at the helm of the Yankees. McCarthy won his seven from 1932 to 1943, and Stengel won his from 1949-1958. After managing for over 50 seasons, Mack could only bag five titles. Alston of the Dodgers won four.

Answer: Jimmie Foxx

Banks wore the familiar 14 throughout his entire career of 19 seasons with the Cubs. Mays debuted with the San Francisco Giants in 1951 with the number 14. Near the end of the season he changed to the number 24 which he wore in the remaining seasons of his career with the Giants and New York Mets. Rose wore the 14 on his back his entire 24-season career with three teams. Foxx wore the 2, 3, 4, 16, and 26 during his 20-season career with four teams.

Answer: Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Blues

The White Sox put the Blues down fairly easy with their 8-2 win on April 24, 1901. The White Sox would continue to show their power as they embarrassed Blues' rookie pitcher Charles Baker by compiling 23 singles in one game just four days later in a 13-1 rout. Chicago would go on to win the first American League pennant by four games over Boston with their 83-53 season.

The Blues went on to finish in seventh place of eight teams with a 54-82 record.

Answer: New York Gothams

The franchise began it all in 1883 as the Gothams under the helm of manager John Clapp. The team went 46-50 to finish in sixth place of eight teams. They became the New York Giants in 1885 and used that name until the franchise moved to San Francisco in 1958.

The franchise won their first World Series in 1905 with the guidance of manager John McGraw and would go to 16 World Series in the 20th Century.
