Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 1980

Answer: West Ham United

Arsenal, finalists in the previous two years, were huge favourites to beat West Ham, not least because West Ham were playing in the Second Division while Arsenal had finished fourth in the First Division. Trevor Brooking scored the only goal of the game as West Ham won their third FA Cup. The 1980 FA Cup final was played on 10 May at Wembley Stadium in London.
2. 1981

Answer: Tottenham Hotspur

The 1980 FA Cup final was played on Saturday 9 May at Wembley Stadium in London. Tottenham Hotspur drew 1-1 with Manchester City, and so the match went to a replay which was played on Thursday 14 May at Wembley Stadium. Tottenham won the replay 3-2 to win their sixth FA Cup.

The match is remembered for the winning goal from Argentina's Ricky Villa, which in 2001 was voted "Wembley Goal of the Century".
3. 1982

Answer: Tottenham Hotspur

The 1982 FA Cup final was played on Saturday 22 May at Wembley Stadium in London. Holders Tottenham were favourites to defeat Second Division side QPR, but the game was taken to a replay following a 1-1 draw. The replay was played on Thursday 27 May at Wembley Stadium. Tottenham won their seventh FA Cup with a 1-0 victory, with Glenn Hoddle scoring the only goal of the game, a penalty early in the first half.
4. 1983

Answer: Manchester United

The 1983 FA Cup final was played on Saturday 21 May 1983 at Wembley Stadium in London. For the third consecutive year, the final was taken to a replay after Manchester United and Brighton & Hove Albion played out a 2-2 draw. The replay was played on Thursday 26 May at Wembley Stadium. Manchester United won their fifth FA Cup with a 4-0 victory.
5. 1984

Answer: Everton

Everton won their fourth FA Cup with a 2-0 victory over Watford. This was Everton's first trophy in 14 years, but would go on to be the first of eight they would win in the next four seasons. The 1984 FA Cup final was played on 19 May at Wembley Stadium in London.
6. 1985

Answer: Manchester United

The 1985 FA Cup was played on 18 May at Wembley Stadium in London. League Champions Everton were aiming to win a treble, having also claimed the 1985 European Cup Winners' Cup. Manchester United had other ideas, however, and won 1-0, with Norman Whiteside scoring in extra-time.

The 1985 final saw United's Kevin Moran become the first ever player to be sent off in an FA Cup final, after he fouled Peter Reid to deny a clear goal-scoring opportunity.
7. 1986

Answer: Liverpool

League champions Liverpool met their city rivals Everton, who had finished league runners-up. Liverpool completed the double with a 3-1 victory, their third success in the FA Cup. Liverpool became the first team, since Queen's Park of Scotland in 1885, not to field any English players in an FA Cup final.

Although Englishman Steve McMahon was a substitute for Liverpool, he was unused. The 1986 FA Cup final was played on 10 May at Wembley Stadium in London.
8. 1987

Answer: Coventry City

The 1987 FA Cup final was played on 16 May at Wembley Stadium in London. Coventry City were appearing in their first ever domestic cup final against seven-time FA Cup winners Tottenham Hotspur, who had won in 1981 and 1982. As such, Tottenham were favourites to win the game, but Coventry won 3-2 after extra-time.
9. 1988

Answer: Wimbledon

The 1988 FA Cup final was played on 14 May at Wembley Stadium in London. League champions Liverpool were favourites to win the double, but Wimbledon won the match 1-0 thanks to a goal from Lawrie Sanchez. John Aldridge missed a chance to level the score in the second half when Liverpool were awarded a penalty, but Wimbledon keeper Dave Beasant saved it, becoming the first goalkeeper to save a penalty in a Wembley FA Cup final.
10. 1989

Answer: Liverpool

The 1989 FA Cup final was played on 20 May at Wembley Stadium in London. In a rematch of the 1986 final, Liverpool met city rivals Everton, winning the match 3-2. Sadly, the FA Cup victory was bittersweet for Liverpool, as the 1989 campaign is remembered for their semi-final match against Nottingham Forest at Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield on 15 April, where 96 Liverpool supporters were tragically crushed to death.
