As Germany was hosting the 2006 World Cup, they automatically qualified. Under official world soccer rules, the host team automatically qualifies for the World Cup, even if it is a very bad team.
2. In the South American zone, which of the following teams did not qualify for the 2006 World Cup?

Brazil qualified on September 4, 2005, Paraguay and Ecuador both qualified on October 8, 2005. Uruguay failed to qualify as they were defeated by Australia in a penalty shootout in the second leg of the playoffs.
3. On November 16, 2005, Australia faced a difficult opponent from the country of Uruguay. It was a hard fought battle as that game determined the final spot for the 2006 World Cup. After losing to Uruguay in the first leg, Australia tied up the series at one goal a piece. It took a penalty shootout for Australia to claim victory and ultimately qualify. What was the final score of the shootout?

Answer: 4 to 2

On November 12, 2005, Uruguay defeated Australia by a score of 1 to 0. The goal was scored by number 3, Dario Rodriguez, in the 37th minute. On November 16, 2005, on the second leg of the playoff, Australia's own Marco Bresciano scored the series tying goal in the 35th minute of the first half. Extra time would decide nothing and Australia will end up defeating Uruguay in the penalty shootout by a score of 4 to 2.
4. The Asian Zone was one of the quickest to have its teams qualify for the World Cup. Of the following countries in the Asian Zone, which did not qualify for the World Cup?

6. In the African zone, five of the thirty teams qualified. Most of the countries were very close in points but only the first place teams in each group could qualify. Of the following teams, which did not qualify?

Answer: Nigeria

7. Off to the European zone. Which of the following countries did not require a playoff series to qualify?
