Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the jump where you take off from a backwards outside edge? (Most skaters flip the edge to an inside one!)

Answer: Lutz

The Lutz is one of the hardest jumps to learn properly-most skaters flip the edge to an inside one before taking off, therefore turning the jump into a FLIP.
2. What is the jump where you take off from a forward outside edge and rotate 1 1/2 times in the air?

Answer: Axel

The Axel was originally made by a male skater as a trick for a competition. Once perfected, he landed this in his competition. From there on the jump stuck as one of the hardest and most famous jumps associated with Figure Skating. Kind of a bad thing to stick with, huh?
3. Where was Michelle Kwan from?

Answer: Southern California

Once Michelle was into figure skating and learned all her ice rink could offer, she began driving to a rink where World Class skaters have trained. She has since won 2 Olympic Medals, but has failed to grab the Gold.
4. Who was the female American skater to take the gold medal at the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah?

Answer: Sarah Hughes

Sarah Hughes came into the senior skating world as a little kid with braces and a cute smile. In 2003, she attended college at Yale to take a break from competitive skating.
5. What does ISI stand for?

Answer: Ice Skating Institute

The ISI program is more based on having fun and is less serious vs. the USFSA. People with disabilities will often skate here as well.
