Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many players are on one side of the court at all times?

Answer: 6

There are six players on the court at all times; three in the front row, three in back.
2. In what position does a player serve?

Answer: Right Back

The server is always the person in the right back position. However, the server can serve from any spot behind the court, as long as they are behind the line.
3. If a ball hits the line on a serve, it is in.

Answer: True

Any part of the ball can hit any part of the line and still be in play.
4. Prior to 2007, which of the following could a libero *NOT* do?

Answer: All listed

A libero is a player who specializes in passing the ball on serves receive, and the only play in the back row. A new rule for 2007 allows liberos to serve!
5. How long is a volleyball court from one end to another?

Answer: 60 feet

A volleyball court is 60 feet long, 30 feet on each side of the net. While it seems like the 10-foot line is very close to the net, 1/3 of the court is in front of the ten-foot line.
6. In high school volleyball, if a ball clips the net on a serve before going over, is it still in play?

Answer: Yes

If the ball hits the net on either an overhand or an underhand serve, it is still in play. Players in serve-receive have to be on their toes in order to reach a ball that clips the net in time.
7. Which is not a regular position in volleyball?

Answer: Spiker

The outside hitter hits from the left side of the court in the front, the middle hitter hits from the middle, and the setter is the person who gets the second hit, and sets the ball to a hitter. There is no official term as a spiker.
8. What is a line judge?

Answer: A person who judges if the ball falls in or out of the court

There are 2 line judges in a game, and they stand at either end line of the court. They help to judge whether or not a serve is in or out, and they also can tell the referee if the server stepped over the line on their serve. Unlike referees, line judges do not need any training, and are not paid.
9. In a normal U.S. high school volleyball game, how many points do you have to score in order to win?

Answer: 25

The winning team is the team that scores 25 points first, but if the final score is within a point, as in 25-24, then play must continue until a team wins by 2 points.
10. In sanctioned U.S. high school girls volleyball, what is the net height?

Answer: 7.5 feet

The net is 7 feet 6 inches at the top.
