The RMS Titanic of the British shipping company, White Star Line, sunk in the early hours of 15th April 1912. The First World War started on the 28th June 1914 with the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. In 1908, the football club Huddersfield Town was born.

They played their first game, a friendly against Bradford Park Avenue on 2nd September 1908 to officially open their Leeds Road ground. Huddersfield of course was famous for being the birthplace of Rugby League in 1895, but now there was an alternative to the rugby.

Interestingly, 1908 is always listed as the founding of Huddersfield Town FC, and the club centenary was celebrated as such in 2008, but the club formed as the Huddersfield Association Football Ground co. in 1907.

They didn't start playing any games until the launch of Huddersfield Town AFC in 1908. Huddersfield Town entered the Football League in 1910.

Herbert Chapman was responsible for not only the first two League titles, but also the FA cup win in 1922. Chapman went on to manage Arsenal and achieved great success there.
The assassin of Lennon was, of course, Mark David Chapman. This tragic event happened on December 8th 1980. Two days earlier Huddersfield Town had earned a good away draw at Fulham (2-2) in the old Division Three.

George Brown matches the initials of British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown. The American country singer would be Garth Brooks, and the American Presidents would be George Bush and George W. Bush.
George Brown spent most, but not all of his career at Huddersfield Town. He scored 159 goals from 229 appearances for Huddersfield. He went on to play for Aston Villa, Burnley, Leeds United, and Darlington. In all, he scored 273 goals in 440 games.
The other three players make up Huddersfield Town's second, third, and fourth highest goal scorers.

Answer: Bobby Charlton played for Huddersfield Town

Bobby Charlton played almost his entire playing career for Manchester United, before playing for Preston North End as their player manager in the early 1970s.
Huddersfield led this game against 10-man Charlton 5-1 with just under half an hour left to play. Charlton came back to win it 7-6, and Huddersfield have the dubious honour of being the first team to ever score six goals in a League game and still lose.

Denis Law, the Scot that was part of the 'trinity' of Manchester United along with Bobby Charlton and George Best. Huddersfield signed him on April 3rd 1955 and he played his first game on the 24th December 1956 at the tender age of 16. He continued with Huddersfield until he was signed by Manchester City in 1960.
Ray Wilson was part of Alf Ramsey's famous World Cup winning side of 1966. Before all that, he played for Huddersfield Town and then signed for Everton in 1964.
Trevor Cherry joined Huddersfield Town in 1965, but made his name playing for the mighty Leeds side of the 1970s.
Finally, Frank Worthington began his career at Huddersfield Town before making 757 League appearances for a total of eleven League clubs.

Answer: Arsenal

Arsenal defeated Huddersfield 1-0 in that game, Round 6 of the FA Cup, but they did not win the cup. Arsenal lost in the final to Newcastle United.
Arsenal have the nickname, 'The Gunners', and their home ground is located in north London.

This defeat stands as Huddersfield Town's record league loss. The exact same margin was the scale of their greatest victory, a 10-1 rout over Blackpool in December 1930.
The 10-1 loss came in Huddersfield Town's worst ever season, they finished 12 points behind the second bottom team.
Huddersfield actually played Manchester City five times that season, winning the home league match 1-0. That was one of the only wins they had that season.

Answer: Ipswich Town

On paper it seemed like good business, but at the time a heavily in debt Huddersfield Town were close to the top of the second flight of English football. Promotion was on the cards, but the decision was made to sell star striker Stewart to promotion rivals Ipswich Town. Ipswich gained promotion, Huddersfield missed out on even a playoff position (after leading the table at the halfway stage), and then two relegations in three years followed.
