Ivan Mauger is the greatest speedway rider in New Zealands racing history. He won 6 World Championships in ten years (1968-69-70, 1972, 1977, 1979).

Ronnie Moore won 2 World Championships in the 1950s (1954 and 1959) and 4 NZ titles. Barry Briggs won 4 World Championships (1957-58, 1964, 1966).

Clark McConachy was born in 1895 in Otago, New Zealand. He won the New Zealand Billiards Championship in 1915 and retained the title for his whole life. He developed into a very good player and was soon recognised as one of the world's best, along with Walter Lindrum and Joe Davis.

He was the first player to make two breaks of over 1,000 in consecutive matches and he achieved a personal best break of 1,943 against Joe Davis in 1932. A couple of years later, while playing Walter Lindrum, he made a break of 1,927. He won the World Billiards title in 1952 and kept it till 1969. Clark McConarchy passed away in 1980.

Tony Wilding born in 1883 at Christchurch, was acknowledged as one of the best tennis players in the world, before he was tragically killed in the first World War. He won the Australian Open twice (1906 and 1909) and FOUR straight Wimbledon FOUR times (1910 to 1913).

Chris Lewis was one of NZ's leading players in the late 1970s and early eighties; his best performance was in 1983 at Wimbledon, making the final against "the superbrat", John McEnroe. Chris started well and that triggered McEnroe to start performing like a childish brat, slowing the game down and wearing out everyone.

Onny Parun was one of the best and most loved players of the 1960s and 70s in New Zealand tennis. He made the final of the Australian Open in 1973, losing to John Newcombe. He also made the quarter finals of the US and French Opens and twice at Wimbledon. But he really grabbed the fans, with his brave efforts in so many Davis Cups matches.
