Six charter members took part in the very first MAC football season: Butler, Cincinnati, Miami (Ohio), Ohio University, Western Michigan, and Western Reserve. The Cincinnati Bearcats were the first-ever MAC champions.

Answer: Butler

Of the six charter members, only half were still playing in the MAC at the end of the 20th century. Butler was first to leave, after the 1949 season. Cincinnati played its last MAC schedule in 1952, and Western Reserve its last in 1954.
