The six charter members of the WAC were Arizona and Arizona State (formerly of the Border Conference), Brigham Young, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming (formerly of the Skyline Conference).

Answer: New Mexico

The New Mexico Lobos finished the inaugural WAC season with a 2-1-1 conference record, and a 7-2-1 record overall.
