Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor was born in 1947 in Harlem, New York. He went to UCLA before becoming the first overall pick in the 1969 draft, and was taken by the Milwaukee Bucks. He won Rookie of the Year, and led the Bucks to the NBA title. Shortly thereafter he converted to Islam, and legally changed his name to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

He was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in 1975. He went on to win five more championships. Kareem won six NBA MVP awards, was a 19 time all-star, and was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 1995.

He was a 14 time all-star. He won eight of his nine championships as a team executive with the Lakers, and the Golden State Warriors. West was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1980.

It was called The Basketball Association of America, and became the NBA two years later. Max was scoring champ in 1949, and was the youngest NBA player to do so for nearly 70 years. He was also a five time all-star. "Stats", nicknamed so for his scoring prowess,died in 1985 at age 59.
