Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which two teams played in the NBA Finals in 2011?

Answer: Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat

While the Lakers and Celtics have probably played each other in the Finals several times, this wasn't their year in either case. However, they did in both 2008 and 2009 with each team winning the championship once. The 2010-11 season pitted the Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat, which was a repeat of the 2006 NBA Finals.
2. Who was named Finals MVP?

Answer: Dirk Nowitzki

While Jason Terry was the story of Game 6 behind his 27-point effort, Dirk Nowitzki won the Finals MVP award with plenty of 4th quarter efforts and heroics, plus making 45 of 46 attempts at the free throw line. Dwyane Wade was named 2006s Finals MVP with Miami's win in that respective series.
3. Who had home court advantage in the series?

Answer: Miami Heat

Since Miami had won 58 games in the regular season and Dallas only 57, Miami had home court advantage in these finals. Seedings did not matter as they were in opposing conferences.
4. How many games did the series go?

Answer: 6

A series has to go at least four games. Dallas vs Los Angeles in the playoffs had Dallas winning in four games. Miami won game 1 at home and game 3 away against Dallas.
5. Who was the sponsor of both teams independently?

Answer: American Airlines

Not only was American Airlines the sponsor of the Mavericks (American Airlines Center), but they were also the sponsor of the Miami Heat (American Airlines Arena). The Target Center was in Minneapolis, MN. Staples was the sponsor of both Los Angeles teams as they played at the Staples Center, and AT&T was the sponsor of the San Antonio Spurs.
6. Which player scored the most points in the series?

Answer: Dwyane Wade

While Miami's big three scored 68% of all their points (377/554), and Dirk was only one of two for Dallas to score over 100 (Jason Terry was the other), Wade had 159 points to Dirk's 156.
7. Which team did the Western Conference winner beat to get to the finals?

Answer: Oklahoma City Thunder

Dallas played Portland in the first round, winning that series four games to two. San Antonio and Memphis played one another in the first round as well, with Memphis closing that series out in six games. Dallas closed out Oklahoma City in five games.
8. Who did the Eastern Conference champion defeat to get to the finals?

Answer: Chicago Bulls

The Heat played Philadelphia, Boston, and Chicago en route to the finals, topping all three teams in five games each. Chicago defeated the Hawks in the second round to meet the Heat in the Conference Final.
9. The NBA Champion won the regular season series over the finals runner-up.

Answer: True

Dallas and Miami played two games over the regular season, as they are in opposing conferences. Teams in the same conference may play four games together. Dallas won both, winning the first game 106-95 at home, and took the second game in Miami 98-96.
10. Who was crowned NBA Champion for the 2010-11 season?

Answer: Dallas Mavericks

In Game 6 in Miami on June 12, 2011, the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Miami Heat four games to two by winning that game 105-95. It was one of only two games in the finals that Dallas scored over 90 points. The other was game 5.
