Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Pepsi 400 at Daytona started promptly as scheduled at approximately 7:30 pm (EST) on Saturday, July 2nd, 2005?

Answer: False

Late rain fell on the Daytona, Florida track just minutes before the scheduled start and this held all the drivers (and fans) in a state of limbo for over two and a half hours.
2. Which driver won the pole to start at the front of the pack in the race?

Answer: Tony Stewart

Stewart, driving the #20 car for Gibbs Racing, won the pole with a leading time of 185.582 mph.
3. On which lap did the green flag finally wave?

Answer: Lap 12

The field started at lap one with both the green and yellow flags waving simultaneously. This is a procedure that Nascar uses in order to cover more track in order to dry the surface faster and more thorough.
4. On lap 35, the first caution of the night came out. Which of the following drivers was not involved in this crash?

Answer: Brian Vickers

Jeff Gordon in the #24 car hand-signaled that he was going to pit during green. Jamie McMurray behind him slowed, but the car behind McMurray did not and the wreckage thus began.
5. Which of the following drivers did not lead the race at some point?

Answer: Bobby Hamilton, Jr.

Bobby hit the wall on lap 101 and took his car to the garage. Neither Kahne nor Jarrett led for long, but they were scored officially as leading the race.
6. Female driver Kim Crosby qualified for the summer Daytona race and finished 40th overall?

Answer: False

Crosby did not even manage to qualify for the Pepsi 400, and in fact, Michael Waltrip finished 40th in the race.
7. Which driver led the most laps for the race?

Answer: Tony Stewart

Tony Stewart led for 151 of 160 laps, a Pepsi 400 race record.
8. What place did Jeff Gordon finish in the Pepsi 400?

Answer: 7th

After winning this race in 2004, and the Daytona 500 in February, Jeff had another top 10 finish in the only restrictor plate race driven at night in the 2005 season.
9. Which driver made a banzai move on the outside, making the field four-wide in the process to take the lead on lap 145?

Answer: Tony Stewart

This was an incredible move to regain the lead on Stewart's part, and it proved once again that #20 was the dominant car for the whole race.
10. Which driver won the 2005 Pepsi 400?

Answer: Tony Stewart

It was Tony Stewart's first race win of the season, and certainly a dominating performance from the Home Depot #20 car.
