Michael Schumacher of Germany won his 7th World Championship in 2004 driving for the Ferrari F1 team. This was his 5th straight title driving for Ferrari (2000 through 2004). Michael also won two titles driving for the Bennetton Team (1994 & 1995).

Frenchman Sebastien Bordais took the 2004 title driving the #2 McDonalds entry for Newman-Haas Racing. In addition to his Champ Car title, Sebastien was the 2002 International F3000 Champion.

Finnish driver Kovalainen took the 2004 title. Kovalainen was also the overall winner in the 2004 Race of Champions even beating F1 Champ Michael Schumacher. The 2004 season marks the end of the 'World Series by Nissan', because Renault is taking over the series as of 2005.
