Answer: Frank Howard

This 6'7" outfielder towered over the others listed. 'Big Frank' played 16 seasons, mostly with the Dodgers and Senators, smacked 382 career home runs. He won the Rookie of the Year award in 1960. He retired in 1973. Yankee Phil Rizutto was 5'6", the famous Eddie 'one at-bat' Gaedel was 3'7", and Pearson was 5'5".
2. Which of the following teams was the first to win 100 games in a season, 15 times?

Answer: New York Yankees

The Yankees lead most other teams in almost every team category. They won an amazing 100 games 15 times, all in the 20th century. Their first season was in 1927 when they won 110 games rostered with Ruth, Gehrig, and Earle Combs. The 15th time was in 1998 when they went 114-48 under manager Joe Torre.
3. After Babe Ruth, which of the following sluggers was the next to hit 50 home runs in a season?

Answer: Hack Wilson

All the players listed hit 50 or more home runs in a season, but many years before the other three was Hack Wilson. In 1930 with the Cubs, he smacked 56 big ones along with 208 hits. Other than his great 1930 season, Hack never even reached the 40-plateau again in his career.
4. In what year did the Seattle Mariners join the ranks of Major League baseball?

Answer: 1977

1977 saw the Mariners first season at the Kingdome in Seattle. They were managed by Darrell Johnson, to a dismal 6th place AL West finish with their 64-98 record. In this initial building year, the Mariners had no players over the age of 31. It would be 1991 before the ballclub went over .500 for a season.
5. Which of these four was known as "Mr. Cub"?

Answer: Ernie Banks

Banks was a force to be reckoned with he joined the Cubs in 1953. Amongst his fat portfolio of team records and awards, Ernie was named season MVP twice in his career, and won a Gold Glove as the Cubs' shortstop. He popped 512 home runs for Chicago. In 19 seasons, Ernie never saw a postseason game, and retired in 1971.
