Answer: Cheetahs

The Cheetahs, based in Bloemfontein, were originally a province in the Cats franchise region of South Africa. After the announcement of an extra South African team entering the Super 12, the Cheetahs broke away from the Cats franchise and finished the 2006 season in 10th place, 3 places higher than the Cats.

Answer: Perth

Perth edged out a bid from Melbourne to become Australia's fourth Super 14 team. Sadly for the Force they finished the 2006 season in last place.
3. Which team won the first ever Super 14 match?

Answer: Hurricanes

In a repeat of the first ever Super 12 match back in 1996, the Hurricanes took on the Blues. But unlike 1996 when the Blues won 36-28, the Hurricanes won the first ever Super 14 match by 37-19

5. Which of these towns or cities did not host a Super 14 game in 2006?

Answer: Napier

McLean Park in Napier has hosted Super 12 matches in the past, but did not host a Super 14 match in 2006. The Reds and Highlanders played in Townsville, Mount Maunganui played host to the Chiefs and the Stormers, whilst the Cheetahs played 2 matches in Kimberley, against the Force and Cats.
6. Going into the final round, 3 teams were still in the hunt for the last semifinal spot. Which team ended up taking 4th position after 14 rounds?

Answer: Bulls

After 13 rounds, the Brumbies were in fourth position. But a 33-3 loss to the Crusaders allowed the Bulls to sneak into 4th spot on points differential from the Sharks. The Brumbies ended up finishing 6th.
7. Who was the former Highlanders and All Black goalkicker, who played for the Sharks in 2006?

Answer: Tony Brown

Tony Brown returned to the Super 14 after 3 years playing in Japan. Instead of returning to his old team the Highlanders, Brown played a key role for the Sharks improvement from last in 2005 to 5th in 2006.
8. Who was the leading tryscorer in the 2006 season?

Answer: Lome Fa'atau

9. Which team finished last in the 2006 Super 14 season?

Answer: Force

It wasn't a great debut year for the Force, who finished their first season in 14th and last position. Notable results were 2 draws against the Cats, and the champions the Crusaders, and their only victory was against the Cheetahs.
10. Which team won the first ever Super 14 title?

Answer: Crusaders

The Crusaders won the first Super 14 title against the Hurricanes 19-12 in dense fog at Jade Stadium, Christchurch. The Crusaders also won 5 of the 10 Super 12 finals, 1996 to 2005, before the addition of the Force and the Cheetahs.
