Answer: Knickerbocker Baseball Club of New York

The 1846 team who was owned by Alexander Cartwright, and playing under Cartwright rules, played the first organized baseball game on June 19, 1846.
2. The first bats in organized baseball resembled what?

Answer: Cricket bats

The baseball bats were actually cricket bats which were flat. These were used until 1859 when a new ruling was adopted making bats no bigger than 2-1/2" wide. After numerous pitchers complained about the size of the flat bat, a new rule which was enacted in 1862 which made the bats round.
3. In which year did the National League begin?

Answer: 1876

The first professional baseball team that paid their players was the Cincinnati Red Stockings in 1869, and continued as a team and was the first officially named National League team in 1876.
4. The first organized baseball game took place in which year?

Answer: 1846

The Knickerbocker Baseball Club of New York played the New York Nines in June 1846. The Nine defeated the Knickerbockers 23-1 in four innings. The umpire of the game was the owner of the losing Knickerbockers. The game took place in Hoboken, New Jersey.
5. Who threw the first no-hitter in professional baseball history?

Answer: George Bradley

In the first season of the National League, Bradley threw the first no-no against the Hartford Blues. The St. Louis Reds won the game 2-1 on July 15, 1876. George Hall was the first so-called 'home run king', as he hit five home runs in 1876 to lead the league.
6. On October 30th of which year did baseball see the first lifetime banishments of players for gambling?

Answer: 1877

The first incidents involved the Louisville Grays. Near the end of the season in 1877, four players were approached by gamblers and offered money to throw some games against the Hartford Blues. They did, and Charles Chase, vice president of the Louisville team, investigated the four.

They all confessed and were banned for life. The players were, Al Nichols, Jim Devlin, George Hall, and Bill Craver.
7. The batting Triple Crown award is not an official award, but a great feat that was accomplished. Who was the first batting Triple Crown winner in professional baseball?

Answer: Paul Hines

Hines batted his way to the Triple Crown in 1878 with the Providence Grays. Nap Lajoie was the first Triple Crown winner in the American League in 1901. Throughout the 19th and 20th century, only two players hit for the Triple Crown twice. Rogers Hornsby in 1922 and 1925, then Ted Williams did it in 1942 and 1947.
8. The first baseball fine ever levied in organized baseball was how much?

Answer: 6 cents

The first fine was levied in the very first game in 1846. The owner of the Knickerbockers umpired the game against the New York Nines. Alexander Cartwright levied the fine against a player only known as 'Davis' of the Nines for using profanity.
9. When was the first night game under lights played?

Answer: 1935

May 24, 1935, saw the first night game ever played. It pitted the Phillies against the host Reds at Crosley Field in Cincinnati. The first World Series night game took place in 1971.
10. Who was the first player in history to get seven hits in a nine-inning game?

Answer: Wilbert Robinson

Robinson did it with the Baltimore Orioles (then a National League team) on June 10, 1892. Robby had 6 singles and one double in the win over the St. Louis Cardinals.
