Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Cowboys inaugural season of 1960, Dallas' record was 0 wins, 11 losses, and 1 tie. Which team did the Cowboys tie to prevent a 0-12 season?

Answer: New York Giants

The Cowboys only non loss in 1960 was against Tom Landry's former team. The Giants had very strong teams during the late 50s to early 60s; therefore this tie, associated with a Giants loss to the Eagles a couple of weeks later (the game where Chuck Bednarik knocked out Frank Gifford), eliminated the Giants from post season play that year.
2. Who was the Dallas Cowboys first ever starting quarterback?

Answer: Eddie LeBaron

Little five foot, seven inch Eddie LeBaron was a Korean War veteran who was decorated for bravery. Playing quarterback in the 1950s, nobody questioned his courage. Tom Landry later said of LeBaron that if he were six inches taller, he would have broke most of the passing records. He was that good.
3. What year was Dallas' first non losing season?

Answer: 1965

Dallas' record in 1965 was 7-7.
4. What year was Dallas' first winning season?

Answer: 1966

Dallas' record in 1965 was 7-7. The following year, Dallas went 10-3-1 for their first winning season.
5. Which Dallas Cowboy defensive lineman once said "Anybody can have an off decade."? Refering to defensive touchdowns he scored against the Washington Redskins in 1968, 1969, and 1980.

Larry Cole made that statement in the post game press conference after he returned a fumble for a touchdown against Joe Theisman's Redskins in 1980.
6. Roger Staubach's first miracle is said to be against which opponent?

Answer: San Francisco

Roger the Dodger's first miracle is said to have taken place in Candlestick Park in San Francisco, during the 1972 Divisional Playoff. Staubach, came off the bench, replacing Craig Morton, and brought the Cowboys back from a 28-13 deficit to a 30-28 backbreaker for the 49ers.
7. Name the only season, during the 1970s, in which the Dallas Cowboys did not participate in postseason play?

Answer: 1974

In 1974, Dallas finished 8-6. That was only good enough for third place in the division trailing Washington and St. Louis.

Answer: Charlie Waters

Charlie Waters then had to share that record with Ronnie Lott. Each have nine postseason interceptions.

Answer: 1986

From 1965 through 1985, Dallas did not know what a losing season was.
10. The Cowboys won 17 consecutive opening day games, from 1965 to 1981. Which team spoiled the streak in 1982?

Answer: Pittsburgh

On Monday Night Football, a week before the strike, the Pittsburgh Sttelers went to Texas Stadium and defeated Danny White and the Cowboys 35-27.
