1. Which National League team won the NL pennant 1900?

Answer: Brooklyn

The Superbas (later Dodgers) won the pennant under the managerial guidance of Ned Hanlon. Their record was 84-54, 4.5 games ahead of the Pirates.
2. What Major League team was the first in history to score 1000 runs in a 162-game season?

Answer: Indians

The Cleveland Indians scored a record 1009 runs in the 1999 season. They were the first to break the 1000 mark.
3. Which of the following pitchers lost 35 games in a season?

Answer: Pud Galvin

Cantwell went 4-25 in 1935 with the Pirates. Two years earlier he was 20-10 with the Braves. Craig lost 24 games in the 1962 season. The Hall of Famer Galvin, went 20-35 with the Buffalo Bisons of the National League in 1880.
4. In what year were strikeout records first kept for a batter?

Answer: 1913

It was in 1913, and Danny Moeller of the Washington Senators in the American League was the first batter to enter the books with 100 strikeouts in a season.
5. What quick-footed runner had the most steals in a season during the 1990s?

Answer: Marquis Grissom

Grissom ripped off 78 stolen bases in 1992, the highest season total of anyone in the decade. Vince Coleman was runner-up with 77 in 1990, the same year that Henderson had his decade season high of 65.
6. Which American League pitcher gave up a record 14 hits in a game, and yet still pitched a shutout?

Answer: Milt Gaston

Gaston, while pitching for Washington, gave up 14 hits against Cleveland on July 10, 1928, and still did the shutout thing. It was his second of three shutouts in the season, and threw 10 throughout his 11-season career.
7. How many World Series home runs did Roger Maris hit in his career?

Answer: 6

He hit 5 in the American League with the Yankees, and 1 while playing in the National League with the Cardinals. He retired with 275 home runs.
8. Which player received the most ballot votes in the 2000 Hall of Fame inductions?

Answer: Carlton Fisk

Both Ryan and Brett were inducted in 1999, and Seaver in 1992. Carlton Fisk was the only one listed above in the 2000 vote. He was the highest vote receiver by obtaining 397 of 499 ballots.
9. Who was the first switch-hitter in history to hit home runs from both sides of the plate in the same game?

Answer: Wally Schang

Schang of Philadelphia hit these on September 8, 1916, at Shibe Park off Allan Russell and Slim Love of the Yankees. In 19 seasons, Schang hit only 59 career home runs.
10. Which was the first team that Connie Mack managed in the big leagues?

Answer: Pittsburgh Pirates

Mack spent 50 years with the Philadelphia Athletics starting in 1901. However, his first three seasons as a manager were with the Pirates in 1894, 1895, and 1896. 149 of his record 3731 wins were with Pittsburgh. Mack also set a record as a manager for losses with 3948.
