1. 1993: the new Molineux. Who were the honorary opponents to mark the official opening of the new ground?

Answer: Honved

Honved were the opponents in a throwback to games during the 'Floodlit Fifties' (one of which was against Honved in December 1954). The game marked the official opening of the new Molineux in December 1993, and ended in 1-1 draw. Andy Thompson scored for Wolves and the game was delayed by a power failure!

2. 1993-94. Manager Graham Turner brought in Guy Whittingham for his first loan spell at the club. How many goals did he score across the two spells?

Answer: 9

He scored 8 on loan from Aston Villa in 1994, and one more in 1998 when on loan from Sheffield Wednesday. Both times he was brought in to boost an attack missing the injured Steve Bull. His goal in 1998 was the first goal Wolves scored under Colin Lee's management and was the equaliser against Bristol City in a match Wolves went on to win 6-1 in a great start to Lee's reign.

3. 1994-95. This was a crazy season, with some mad games. Which of the following games did not involve Wolves scoring a last minute equaliser?

Jostein Flo equalised in the seventh minute of injury time for Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. In the other games, Wolves turned round two goal deficits to claim a point. The home game against Sheffield United saw Wolves score twice in injury time! Dean Richards scored a brace to turn it round at Derby, and Neil Emblen was the last minute hero at Kenilworth Road.

Venus and Ferguson scored within a minute of each other to give Wolves a 2-0 lead. This coming immediately after Ogrizovic had been sent off for handling outside his area. Venus scored from the resulting free kick.

5. 1996-97. A promotion push ended in play-off misery as which future Wolves striker scored two crucial late goals in the play-off first leg?

It was of course Dougie Freedman for Crystal Palace, either side of Jamie Smith's only Wolves goal. The players were to swap clubs the next season. Unfortunately Wolves did not learn from their mistakes as they conceded a crucial late goal to Norwich in the 2001-02 play-offs which ultimately proved decisive.

Answer: Stockport County

With the score at 3-2 Keane missed a penalty that would have surely wrapped the points up for Wolves. Just to rub Wolves' noses in it, Stockport ended up winning the match 4-3.

7. 1998-9. Colin Lee replaced Mark McGhee and suddenly Wolves could win from behind. They beat Bristol City 6-1 and followed this up with a 2-1 victory over which club?

Answer: Sheffield United

David Connolly scored four at Ashton Gate and another against the Blades for five goals in two games. He scored only once more for the club, in another comeback game when Wolves won 3-2 at Barnsley. They were 2-0 down but Emblen headed them back into it and Dean Richards smashed home a late winner.

Answer: Steve Sedgley

It was Steve Sedgley in the 75th minute or thereabouts, as Wolves completed a quite astonishing comeback. Branch equalised and Akinbiyi finished it off. Sedgley hit a hot streak in front of goal in mid season and ended up as the second top scorer with 7 goals.

Wimbledon (0-1), Huddersfield Town (0-1), Crewe Alexandra (0-0), Blackburn Rovers (0-0) and Bolton Wanderers (0-2). Wolves' worst goalscoring run at Molineux since 1984-5, when they failed to score at home in 10 consecutive games.

Wolves' best start to a season since 1992-93 when they went 12 games undefeated. Sadly it all came to nothing, as did the fantastic run of seven successive victories in February and March, which saw them sitting top of the table with only 9 games left in the season .. they were 10 points in front of Albion!
