1. This pitcher had a tremendous decade with holding three of a kind by winning three Cy Young awards. Who was this Hall of Fame great?

Answer: Sandy Koufax

Koufax of the Dodgers won all this three awards when there was only one Cy Young Award handed out Major League wide. He won them in 1963, 1965, and 1966. In 1967, Major League Baseball began to present one Cy Young Award in each league. In the 1960s, Sandy also won a NL season MVP, two World Series MVPs, and threw three Triple Crowns from 1963-1966. He was forced to retire due to elbow problems in 1966, going out with a 27-9 season record.

2. Which Major League team was the first to appear in three consecutive World Series?

Answer: Chicago Cubs

The first-ever World Series took place in 1903 with the Boston Americans in a win against the Pittsburgh Pirates. With no World Series in 1904, the Cubs appeared in the third, fourth, and fifth World Series from 1906-1908. They lost to the White Sox, then beat the Tigers twice. They also appeared in the eighth World Series in 1910 in a loss to the Athletics.

3. Which manager was holding three of a kind when he became the first to win three Manager of the Year awards?

Answer: Tony LaRussa

Tony won the first Manager of the Year Award presented to an American League manager in 1983 while he was at the helm of the White Sox. He won two more with the Athletics with award number three coming in 1992. He won a fourth in 2002 with the Cardinals. Cox won a total of four Manager of the Year awards, with his third coming in 2004 with the Braves. Anderson and Lasorda won two each.

4. Which baseball player's three of a kind was all cracked, creased, and bruised by being the first player in history to be hit by a pitch 40 times in three different seasons?

Answer: Hughie Jennings

Jennings was known for crowding home plate and was hit a record 287 times over his 18-season career. He set a single-season record in 1896 with the Baltimore Orioles by being bruised 51 times. He followed that up with 46 in 1897, then another 46 in 1898. None of the others were plucked 40 times even once.

Answer: Yankees

The Yankees had three rookie award winners that helped them set up for many future seasons. They were Gil McDougald in 1951, Bob Grim in 1954, and Tony Kubek in 1957. The Yankees were loaded with new talent in the 1950s, even those who never won a Rookie of the Year Award. Those included Mickey Mantle, Bob Turley, Elston Howard, Bobby Richardson, and Whitey Ford. The other teams listed all had one Rookie of the Year Award winner in the 1950s.

6. Who was the first pitcher in baseball history to lead his league in three consecutive seasons with over 300 strikeouts in each season?

Answer: Nolan Ryan

Ryan led his league an amazing 11 times in his 27 seasons from 1966-1993. From 1972-1974 with the Angels, Ryan struck out 329, 383, and 367 American League batters. Six times in his career, Nolan hit the 300-mark, and his 1973 season with 383 set a Major League season record. Ryan had two of his league-leading stints in the National League with the Astros. He retired after playing with four teams, and on top of the heap with 5714 career strikeouts.

7. Who was the first Major League manager to hold three of a kind by being the first to win three World Series?

Answer: Connie Mack

Mack had the helm of the Philadelphia Athletics from 1901-1950, a record stretch that will never be touched. He took his Athletics to the 1910, 1911, and 1913 World Series crowns by defeating the Cubs once and the Giants twice. He also took them to the 1914 series in a loss to the Boston Braves. Overall, Cornelius Alexander Mack took the Athletics to nine American League pennants and five World Series crowns.

8. Who was the first modern-day Major League player to steal 100 bases in a season, three times in his career?

Answer: Rickey Henderson

The seasons were close with these bragging rights. Henderson of the Oakland Athletics got his first taste of the century mark in 1980 when he stole 100 bases. He would follow that up by stealing 130 in 1982 which set a season record. His third layer of cake came the following season in 1983 when he stole another 108. Coleman was a rookie with the Cardinals when he topped the century mark in 1985, then had his three of a kind after the 1986 and 1987 seasons. Raines never reached the 100-mark plateau.

Henderson retired with a career record of 1406 thefts over his 25 seasons and retired in 2003. The picture was of movie and television actress, Florence Henderson, who became mostly known for her role in the television series, "The Brady Bunch".
9. Which Hall of Fame great was holding three of a kind when he became the first player in history to win three Most Valuable Player awards?

Answer: Jimmie Foxx

Foxx played for 20 seasons, mostly with the Philadelphia Athletics and Boston Red Sox. He won two MVPs with the Athletics in 1932 and 1933, then in 1938 with the Red Sox. Jimmie also batted for the Triple Crown in 1933. He hit 534 career home runs, hitting the 50-season mark twice. He almost pulled out a fourth MVP in 1939, but was runner-up to Joe DiMaggio of the Yankees.
Schmidt also won three MVPs with his third coming in 1986 with the Phillies. Berra's third MVP came in 1955 with the Yankees. The great Lou Gehrig won two MVPs, coming in 1927 and 1936.

Answer: New York Yankees

The Yankees were shut down by Frank Frisch and Casey Stengel of the 1922 New York Giants. The Dodgers with Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale followed up in 1963, then the Big Red Machine of Cincinnati in 1976 with future Hall of Famers Johnny Bench and Joe Morgan.
