The New England Patriots are also the only team to go undefeated in a full 16-game regular season (2008). They came one game away from full season perfection, losing to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII. The Pittsburgh Steelers ended the 21-game winning streak on Halloween 2004.

Answer: Oakland Athletics

Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill and Philip Seymour Hoffman played the focal characters behind the overhaul of the Oakland A's and the improbable streak featuring almost no star players and minimal payroll. Oakland's twenty-game streak was the first over sixteen games in over sixty years; no team ever got past sixteen straight games since the National League Cubs put up 21 straight.

The New York Giants had an UNDEFEATED streak of 26 games in 1916. But that involved a tie in the middle of it.

Answer: De La Salle of Concord, CA

The other three are famous for producing basketball wins.

De La Salle has a number of alumni who have made it to the professional football level. Jim Caviezel played Coach Bob Ladouceur in the movie, released in August 2014. The actual coach Ladouceur retired from coaching in 2013.

John Wooden had several iconic teams throughout the 1960s and 1970s but perfection is difficult to come by when everyone wants to beat Number One. That's why 88 straight games over four different seasons (meaning two seasons were undefeated) is such a feat. Since the streak ended only one team in over 40 seasons has even completed one full season undefeated.

Answer: Pittsburgh Penguins

Mario Lemieux was the heart of the Penguins for over a decade. But Hodgkin's lymphoma set him on the shelf with two months of treatment. Upon his return the Penguins played with a fervor that was only fueled by the fans happy to see his return. Even fans in rival stadiums gave him standing ovations. The Penguins would be upset by the New York Islanders in that year of playoffs.

Answer: University of Oklahoma Sooners

The Sooners of Oklahoma, even though they were undefeated in 1954, had two other teams ahead of them in the polls. Due to rules at the time where teams couldn't play consecutive years in the same bowl game, Ohio State and UCLA (the two teams ahead of them) were unable to play each other in the Rose Bowl, and they stayed undefeated. Oklahoma was left with no say in who ended the year as national champions. Bud Wilkinson had a string of seventeen years of excellence coaching OU, winning six national championships.

Answer: Harlem Globetrotters

Harlem Globetrotters are the quintessential combination of sports and entertainment, playing more exhibition games than actual competitive games. But they did keep score for all of them. And there were occasions where the Generals had good shooting nights and the Globetrotters didn't have their A-game. These were few and far between. They still play almost a game per day on average, entertaining fans around the world.

The other three names were different names the Generals used over the years.

Answer: University of Mount Union Purple Raiders

All told Mount Union won eleven national championships in the 27 years that Kehres was coach. His 93% winning percentage is the highest in NCAA football history for coaches with 200 wins. His son Vince took over coaching the Purple Raiders in 2013.

Answer: University of Connecticut Huskies

Geno Auriemma emigrated to Pennsylvania from Italy when he was seven. His Connecticut program since 1985 has become one of the few Division I dynasties in college sports. In the first sixteen years of the new millennium, Auriemma and his Lady Huskies have won more national championships than lost.

Answer: Penn State University Nittany Lions

Penn State's volleyball program has been superb over the last twenty years under Coach Rose, winning seven national championships. Their move from the Atlantic 10 conference to the highly touted Big Ten Conference in 1991 did nothing to slow them down.
