Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 2010, which player upset both Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic on his way to a final loss to Rafael Nadal?

Answer: Tomas Berdych

Twelfth seed Berdych had never reached the final of a Grand Slam event before Wimbledon in 2010. He shocked defending champion Federer in four sets in the quarterfinals and then saw off Djokovic in straight sets in the semis. The final was a step too far though, Nadal winning his second title in straight sets.

In the women's singles, Serena Williams won her fourth title, winning all seven matches in straight sets - Vera Zvonareva was her opponent in the final.
2. 2011 saw new champions in both singles events for the first time in nine years. Novak Djokovic won the men's singles, but who triumphed in the women's event?

Answer: Petra Kvitova

Kvitová defeated Maria Sharapova in straight sets in the final to become the first Czech winner since Jana Novotna in 1998. In the men's event, Djokovic faced defending champion Rafael Nadal in the final and won in four sets.
3. 2012 saw familiar champions as Roger Federer and Serena Williams won their seventh and fifth titles respectively. Which eastern European player was runner-up to Williams in what was her first Grand Slam final?

Answer: Agnieszka Radwanska

Radwanska, from Poland, defeated Angelique Kerber in straight sets in the semi-finals, but lost the final in three sets to Williams. Federer defeated defending champion Novak Djokovic in the semis before seeing off Andy Murray in four sets in the final.
4. There were new names on both trophies in 2013, with Marion Bartoli lifting the women's title and Andy Murray becoming the first Briton to win the men's singles for how many years?

Answer: 77

Fred Perry, in 1936, had been the last "home" winner of the men's singles until Murray triumphed with a straight sets win over Novak Djokovic in the final. Bartoli was seeded fifteenth, and was the surprise winner of the women's singles, defeating Sabine Lisicki in the final.
5. In 2014, Novak Djokovic won a thrilling five-set final against which player?

Answer: Roger Federer

Djokovic won his second Wimbledon crown with a 6-7 6-4 7-6 5-7 6-4 victory over Federer. In the women's singles, Petra Kvitová also won a second title, thrashing Eugenie Bouchard in the final in less than an hour.
6. In 2015, Serena Williams won a sixth Wimbledon crown with victory in the final over which Spanish player?

Answer: Garbine Muguruza

Muguruza was playing in her first Wimbledon final but was dispatched by Williams in straight sets. The men's final saw a rematch of the 2014 meeting between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer, but this time Djokovic only needed four sets to prevail.
7. Andy Murray won his second title in 2016, with victory over which player, who was the first from his country to reach a men's final at Wimbledon?

Answer: Milos Raonic

Raonic shocked Roger Federer in five sets in the semi-finals to become the first Canadian player to reach a men's singles final at Wimbledon. In the final, Andy Murray defeated him in straight sets. Serena Williams won her seventh women's crown, defeating Angelique Kerber in straight sets in the final.
8. Roger Federer won his eighth Wimbledon title in 2017 with victory over which player in the final?

Answer: Marin Cilic

A number of upsets throughout the men's draw saw Cilic make it through to the final, but on the day the Croatian was no match for Roger Federer who raced to his eighth title in straight sets. Garbine Muguruza atoned for her final defeat to Serena Williams in 2015 by defeating Serena's sister Venus in the women's final, thus becoming the first Spanish champion since Conchita Martinez in 1994.
9. In 2018, which player won her first women's singles title with victory over Serena Williams in the final?

Answer: Angelique Kerber

Kerber became the first German winner of the women's singles since Steffi Graf in 1996. She beat Ostapenko 6-3 6-3 in the semis before dispatching Williams by an identical score in the final. Novak Djokovic won his fourth men's crown with a straight sets win over South African Kevin Anderson in the final.
10. Serena Williams lost the women's final in 2018 and lost again in the 2019 final. Who beat her in 2019, for her first Wimbledon crown?

Answer: Simona Halep

Halep became the first Romanian player of either gender to win a singles title at Wimbledon. She thrashed Williams in the final in under an hour, committing only three unforced errors throughout the match. In the men's event, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer met in the final for the third time and, as in the previous two, it was Djokovic who came out on top.

It was the first final to be decided by a final-set tiebreak, with Djokovic also becoming the first champion to save match points on route to the title since Bob Falkenburg in 1948.
