Answer: Toronto Argonauts

The Toronto Argonauts are the oldest team in the CFL, dating back to 1873. This long tenure has allowed them to win 17 Grey Cups from 1909-2019 and play in six others. The Argonauts first appearance in the Grey Cup was in 1911 when they lost to the University of Toronto, 14-7. (In the early years, amateur teams were allowed to and did compete for the Grey Cup.) The Argonauts played in the Grey Cup against every team in the West Division of the CFL during those 110 years.

The Ottawa Rough Riders were formed in 1876 and folded in 1996. They won nine Grey Cups and played in six others. The team was briefly known as the Ottawa Senators in the late 1920s. In its first Grey Cup victory, Ottawa defeated the Winnipeg Tammany Tigers (somewhat related to the Blue Bombers), 24-1.

The game was played at Lansdowne Park which, with name changes, has been home to the Rough Riders.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers, formed in 1930, played in 25 Grey Cups during its first 110 years (with a win-loss record of 11-14). There was a connection with the Winnipeg Tammany Tigers which disbanded in 1930 and merged that year with other teams to form the Winnipeg Football Club.

The Blue Bombers became the first western team to win the Grey Cup with Winnipeg's 1935 victory over the Hamilton Tigers, 18-12. Winnipeg's team colors are blue, gold, and white.

The Calgary Stampeders date back to 1945. Their 8th win in 2018 was their 17th Grey Cup final appearance. Ralph the Dog has served as the team's mascot since the 1970s.

The Montreal Alouettes have won their 7th Grey Cups in their 18th final appearance. The team was founded in 1946 and had a tumultuous history. The Alouettes folded in 1981, reappeared as the Montreal Concordes from 1982-1985, changed their name back to the Alouettes (1986-1987) before folding a second time, and reappearing as the Alouettes again in 1996.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats had a record of 8-11 during the first 110 years of the Grey Cup. The team was formed in 1950 through the merger of two other teams: The Hamilton (Flying) Wildcats, which played from 1941-1949 and won the 1943 Grey Cup, and the Hamilton Tigers (1883-1949) which won five Grey Cups (1913, 1915, 1928, 1929, 1932).

The Tiger-Cats even lay claim (not recognized by the CFL) to the 1912 Grey Cup won by the Hamilton Alerts (1911-1912).

The Edmonton Elks (known as the Edmonton Eskimos until 2021) were founded in 1949. The team won its 14th Grey Cup in its 23rd appearance in the final. The teams colors are green, gold, and white. The team won an amazing five Grey cups in a row in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

The team moved to Commonwealth Stadium in 1978. They are one of the three community-owned teams in the CFL (Edmonton Elks, Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Saskatchewan Roughriders). In 2019 there were nine CFL teams.

The BC Lions play in Vancouver, BC and were founded in 1954. The team's win in 2011 was their 6th in ten Grey Cup final appearances. The Lions have Leo the Lion as a mascot and team colors of black and orange. In 1994, the Lions won the Grey Cup 26-23, defeating the Baltimore Football Club (the first US team to compete in a Grey Cup). Baltimore played in the final again in 1995, and won the Grey Cup.

The team then folded and did not re-appear in the 1996 season.

Founded as the Regina Football Club in 1910, the Saskatchewan Roughriders have green and white as their colors. Their win in 2013 was their 4th in 19 appearances. In 1966, the Roughriders became the last of the original nine CFL teams to win the Grey Cup. The team moved to Mosaic Stadium in 2016.

The Ottawa Redblacks began play in the CFL in 2014. The team's first three appearances in the Grey Cup were 2015, 2016, and 2018, with 2016 representing a victory. Like the name says, the teams colors were red and black with white highlights (the same colors as the Ottawa Rough Riders).
