Answer: Washington Senators

Before becoming the Rangers, the franchise was the Washington Senators beginning in 1961. In 1961 the Senators was managed by Mickey Vernon. The team really never went anywhere for the next decade, so the team was sold and moved.
2. What Ranger led the team in 2002 with 57 home runs?

Answer: Alex Rodriguez

Alex smacked an astounding 57 home runs in 2002, along with batting .300 and having 187 hits. In his 9th season in the Majors, he earned his first Gold Glove Award at shortstop, and was 2nd in the American League MVP voting.
3. Who was the first Texas Ranger to win 25 games in a season?

Answer: Ferguson Jenkins

Jenkins won 25 games in 1974. He was the only Ranger in the 20th century to win 25 games in a season. In his first year after being traded from the Cubs, Fergie was 25-12 with 225 strikeouts. This would be his last year of glory during his 19 season career.

Answer: Nolan Ryan

Ryan set a team record of 301 in 1989. He struck out 239 the following year. In 1989, he was 16-10 in a Ranger uniform in his first Texas year, after being traded from the Houston Astros. Ryan struck out a total of 939 batters in a Rangers' uniform in just 5 seasons with the club.
7. Who was the first Texas Rangers' manager?

Answer: Ted Williams

The team finished with a record of 54-100, for a last place finish in the American League Western Division, 38.5 games behind first place. This would be Williams' last of his 4 seasons of managing baseball.

Franco was the only Ranger in the 20th century to reach the .340 marker by hitting .341 in 1991. He broke the team record of Mickey Rivers, who hit .333 in 1980.

This did not happen. The best season that the Rangers had was in 1999 when they won the American League Western Division. In that season they were 95-67 under manager Johnny Oates. They lost their American Division series to the New York Yankees 3 games to 0.

Kenny Rogers was the only pitcher to win in double-figures, with a record of 13-8. Chan Ho Park was the only other Ranger close with a record of 9-8, then Ismael Valdes was 6-9. The Rangers won a total of 72 games in the 2002 season.
