Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the beginning of the episode, the survivors are walking in line through the island. Which of these is untrue about that line?

Answer: Desmond is behind Claire

After telling the survivors that he has a plan for stopping the inevitable arrival of the "others", Jack takes several people to a remote position in the island, in which they meet Rousseau. It is then that the doctor reveals that, with the help of Danielle, he has been gathering dynamite, and now, at last, they have enough to set a trap, which will consist on lurking the "others" to the tents and then blow them up. None of the survivors disagree with Jack's decision and, once they return to the beach, everyone starts making preparations for the upcoming war.
2. What is the name of the underwater station that is blocking all transmissions coming from the island?

Answer: The Looking Glass

On the beach, most of the people are looking for wire to set the traps for the "others"; Sayid, however, has been busy with a more important matter: getting everyone off the island. The former soldier reveals Jack that the reason he is incapable of using Naomi's radio to send a rescue signal is that there is another signal interfering: Rousseau's distress call. Nonetheless, if he goes to the radio tower and turns off the distress call, he might be able to call for help.

Unfortunately, Juliet tells him that it won't matter, because Ben is using one of the Dharma Stations, known as the Looking Glass, to block all transmissions coming from the island. And to make matters worse, the woman is unaware of the station's location. Luckily, Sayid, using some documents he stole from the Flame, discovers that the Looking Glass is located underwater and that the cable he found months ago buried in the sand is actually the connection between the station and the island.
3. Which of these is untrue about Desmond's new vision?

Answer: Charlie flicks a switch next to a red light

After acting strange all day long, Desmond confronts Charlie and tells him that he had a new vision, in which he saw Claire and Aaron being rescued by a helicopter. Unfortunately, for this to happen, Charlie must first take on a suicide mission, which consists on going into an underwater "hatch" and flicking a switch next to a yellow light.

After doing that, Charlie drowns. Depressed about learning his ultimate fate but willing to give everyone a chance to go home, Charlie makes a decision and, after hearing Jack and Sayid discussing a plan for entering the Looking Glass, he volunteers himself to swim in and flick the switch.

Initially, the doctor refuses to send him but eventually, when the situation becomes more complicated, he accepts.
4. Does Sun tell Jin the whole truth about her pregnancy?

Answer: No

Just like Rose, Bernard and many other survivors, Jin and Sun are tying up pieces of wire. The former, however, is more concerned with the fact that he heard his name in Juliet's tape, so he demands that Sun tells him the whole truth. The woman, then, decides to tell him everything about his visit to the medical station and how he saw the baby in the ultrasound.

She also tells him that the baby is perfectly healthy, but omits revealing the fact that she may die due to the pregnancy. The two hug after this revelation and, whereas Jin is overjoyed with happiness, Sun can't help bursting in tears.
5. Which person arrives to the beach and warns the survivors about the "others" change of plans in this episode?

Answer: Karl

Six hours prior to this episode's events, Ben returns to the "others" camp, looking very nervous and agitated; and, when he is confronted about the mysterious absence of Locke, he replies with a cold "John had an accident". After this, Ben looks for Pryce and orders him to get ready, as there has been a change of plans: the "others" are not attacking the survivors' camp in two days, but that same night. Alex, who overhears the whole conversation, immediately rushes into the jungle and contacts Karl, who has been hiding nearby.

The girl tells him that the time has come for him to pay Kate and Sawyer's favor, so now he must use a boat to get to the beach quicker that anyone else and warn the survivors about the others imminent menace. Karl accepts and reaches the beach in very little time.

The young man is initially tackled and attacked by Sayid but Sawyer soon rescues him and allows him to reveal the reason of his visit. Once Karl says what he has come to say, the survivors begin rearranging their plans and trying to find another way to repel the "others".
6. In order to get to the radio tower, the survivors need someone to guide them. Two people are candidates for taking this role but, in the end, only one is chosen. Who is this chosen one?

Answer: Jack

After assimilating Karl's new revelation, the survivors start thinking and eventually come up with a new plan: since they do not have enough time to set the trap correctly, three people are going to stay in the camp and wait for the "others". Once they arrive, they will shoot the tents (which are full of dynamite) from a considerable distance.

This is a very dangerous task, so it will be difficult to find three people willing to be left behind. On the other hand, the majority of survivors are going to head for the radio tower, in order to turn off Rousseau's distress call and wait for rescue.

Initially, Sayid is assigned for leading the group of survivors, but eventually the mission goes to Jack, since he is arguably the leader of the camp. But of course, for all this to happen, someone must first go into the Looking Glass and flick the switch, so the station stops blocking the signals. With no other choice, Jack gives Charlie permission to venture into the station; however, he will not be alone, as a very decided Desmond opts to accompany him.
7. Three people are assigned to stay in the camp and shoot the tents once the "others" arrive, so that the dynamite explodes. Which of these is definitely not one of the shooters?

Answer: Rousseau

Once the survivors have gathered the guns they need, the time comes to find the three "shooters". Rousseau initially volunteers to be one of them, but Jack reminds her that is her duty to help them find where the radio tower is. Some minutes later, Bernard is seen firing at some cans, to prove Sayid that he is a worthy shooter. Rose, however, is reluctant to leave her husband behind, so, at the end of the episode, it is unknown whether Bernard is staying in the camp or not; but there is a good chance he is. Also, Sayid decides to stay once Jack is assigned to lead the survivors to the radio tower. And last but not least, and although he is not directly mentioned, it is implied that Jin will be the last shooter, because when Jack asks Juliet whether or not they found the third one, she nods and glances towards him.
8. Across the whole episode, Charlie is seen writing some notes on a piece of paper. What is this piece of paper, according to Charlie's own words?

Answer: Charlie's list of the best moments of his life (his greatest hits)

After saying goodbye to Claire, Aaron and his best friend Hurley, Charlie, along with Desmond, takes Karl's boat away. After some time, they reach the cable and use it to guide themselves through the sea; in some minutes, they reach the underwater station. Realizing the moment has come, Charlie gives Desmond a piece of paper which, according to him, contains the "greatest hits" of his life.

After making Desmond promise he would deliver it to Claire, Charlie prepares for going into the water, but suddenly the former Swan inhabitant tells Charlie that he must not worry, because he has decided to go in his stead.

After telling him that maybe the reason he has been seeing Charlie dying is that he is the one who is actually meant to die, Desmond gets ready; however, as soon as the man turns around, Charlie hits him with a paddle, leaving him unconscious. Now out of obstacles, the musician stands up and, after dropping some tears, dives into the water.
9. Whom does Charlie find in the Looking Glass?

Answer: Two unknown women

Using a bag of rocks to weigh himself down, Charlie quickly gets to the Looking Glass. Initially, he cannot find the moon pool, where the switch is supposed to be, but he soon spots it. Using the last of his strength, the brave man swims into it. What happens now is surprising as, contrary to what Juliet had claimed, the station is not flooded so Charlie survives the journey. Totally glorified by having cheated death, Charlie explodes with joy.

Unfortunately, his happiness doesn't last long as two heavily armed women quickly show up, threateningly pointing their guns at Charlie.

It seems that all our previous knowledge of the Looking Glass status was mistaken.
10. Which of these is untrue about Charlie's flashbacks?

Answer: His brother gives him a family ring as a birthday present

This episode's flashbacks differ from others in the fact that they are not focused on a specific relationship or problem, but they are a recollection of what Charlie himself calls the "greatest hits" of his life. In the first one, we can see Charlie and Liam discussing while en route to a concert in Clitheroe, regarding the former's desire to quit the band.

The argument, however, is forgotten once the band hears their first and only hit "You all Everybody" in the radio. In the second one, we are taken to Charlie's childhood, specifically the moment in which his father tries to teach him how to swim.

After a brief moment of reluctance and distrust, Charlie decides to go into the pool and, along with his father, he enjoys a moment he would never forget.

The third flashback features a more recent event, during Driveshaft's best moments. Charlie is visited by his brother Liam in Christmas and receives a ring, which used to belong to their mother, not only as a sign of appreciation, but also as a sign of respect and admiration. Charlie's fourth flashback features him rescuing a woman (who is curiously Nadia, Sayid's former girlfriend) from a mugger.

After seeing his brave attitude, the woman calls him a hero, a title Charlie could have never expected to receive. The last flashback takes place the day of the crash of Oceanic 815. Charlie is wandering around when he spots Claire, sitting next to a fire. The man goes to her and offers her his blanket. After that first encounter, the two sit and talk for a while, a conversation which ends with Charlie telling Claire that they will soon be found and rescued. Months later, Charlie lists this as the best moment of his life and, remembering what he said to Claire that day, he gains courage and does not hesitate a moment before giving his life for the sake of his loved ones.
