This episode featured Kate in the flashbacks and it was in the first one where she pulled up to a motel in her car, changed the license plate on her car, and she also had blonde hair. Kate dyed her hair to blonde and changed the plate since she was on the run from the law.

She walked by the maid's cleaning cart and took some towels with her as she went into one of the rooms. In the room, she took a shower and then later on went to get a letter under the alias, "Joan Hart."

Charlie told her that Drive Shaft's albums (Drive Shaft was the name of the band of which he was a member) must have gone up in sales when everybody believed he was dead from the plane crash. Charlie continued strumming his guitar and told her of how, when he came back alive, everything would be insane.

As the opening credits rolled, Kate was seen speaking to Michael about the raft and he mentioned how it could hold four people and there were already four, including Sawyer. Michael informed her how they needed some stuff for the raft and Sawyer provided that stuff. Kate told Michael how Sawyer did not even know how to sail and Michael asked Kate if she knew how and she told him how she spent two summers crewing J/boats.

As the opening credits rolled, Sun went to speak to Jin, who was working some more on the raft, and she asked him if he was going on it. Jin did not respond to her so she asked Jin to speak to her. Jin decided this time to answer her question and he said he was going on the raft. Sun looked disappointed and just walked away.

Sayid decided to take Jack on a trip through the woods but he did not tell Jack where they were going since he felt it would be better had Jack seen it for himself. Jack told Sayid he did not believe that at all so he demanded that Sayid tell him why he brought him out there or he would go back. Locke appeared and told Jack that Sayid brought him there since he asked Sayid to do it.

Michael was carrying something to the raft while Sawyer had some water and Sawyer asked him a question. He told him how he noticed that Jin had packed a cooler full of salted fish so he asked Michael if they could not catch fish while sailing out into the ocean. Michael asked Sawyer if he knew anything about surviving at sea and Sawyer asked Michael if he knew. Michael said it did not matter since he built it.

Midway through the episode, Walt was seen running through the woods and he saw Sun and Kate. He told both of them that he needed help since his father was having some stomach problems. Kate instructed Sun to take Walt back to Michael while she went to go find Jack.

There was one scene in the episode where Hurley and Locke were speaking to one another and Locke asked Hurley if Michael and Jin were getting along. Hurley told him they still seemed to be like a married couple in their fighting over the raft. Jack came over and Hurley told him how Sawyer went off on Michael since Michael got to decide who goes on the raft. Hurley also asked Jack if he believed Kate poisoned Michael so she could go on the raft but Jack did not answer him.

Charlie decided to have his hair cut in this episode so Claire cut it while Charlie played his guitar for her baby to hear it. At one point, Charlie kept moving around so Claire told him to stay still or else she might accidentally hurt him. Charlie asked Claire what would be the first thing she would do when they got rescued but Claire said she had no clue. Charlie told her she could hang out with him in Los Angeles.
