1.4 "The Dragon Reborn" Trivia Quiz

Answer: Ghealdan

We see Logain rebuff all attacks against himself with ease, using channeled Air to block blades and strike at soldiers. But we also see how the male half of the Source is corrupted, with the normal clean weaves of the One Power tainted with black.

Logain does not kill the King of Ghealdan in his attack, but rather spares him and heals his wounds, telling the king that the Dragon Reborn has no need of crowns, and that he intends not to break the world anew, but to bind the nations together. Inspired, the king decides to join with and follow this self-proclaimed Dragon, but he also warns Logain that he had already sent to the Aes Sedai for help.

Logain is portrayed by Álvaro Morte, and the King of Ghealdan is played by Miguel Álvarez.

Answer: Kerene Nagashi

The group of Aes Sedai escorting Logain is comprised of Sisters from the Red and Green Ajah. We are introduced to three of them by name, although it is mentioned that there are eight altogether (3 Green and 5 Red). The two names Greens are Kerene Nagashi, who has one Warder named Stepin, and Alanna Mosvani, who has two Warders named Ihvon and Maksim. The only Red whose name we know is the leader of the group, Liandrin Guirale. None of the Reds have Warders.

Clare Perkins plays Kerene and her Warder Stepin is Peter Franzén.
Alanna is played by Priyanka Bose, while her Warders are portrayed by Emmanuel Imani (Ihvon) and Taylor Napier (Maksim).
Liandrin is played by Kate Fleetwood.

Answer: Two

In the book series, the standard number of Aes Sedai (according to White Tower policy) needed to maintain a shield on a man who can channel is six, although it can be done with fewer, depending on the strength of the male channeler.

In the situation presented in the show, there are only seven Aes Sedai in Logain's escort, and they are taking turns doing the job, two at a time, to manage the strain of holding him back. Once healed, Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) is quick to offer her services to lessen the overall load on her Sisters.

As Alanna comments when describing the effort to keep Logain contained, "It's like holding a cat in the bath."

Answer: The Battle Ajah

When Moiraine suggests to Alanna that she could have been Blue Ajah, Alanna responds with some humour, stating that she could never manage with just one Warder. But more to the point, Alanna "thought it was so heroic... The Battle Ajah - warriors trained to defend humanity from the Dark One at the Last Battle."

With their militaristic purpose, it is understandable that Greens would want more than one Warder. Although in the show it seems that other benefits of having multiple Warders are also considered, as a polyamorous relationship is heavily implied between Alanna, Ihvon and Maksim.

Answer: Rand

As they approach the farm, Thom (Alexandre Willaume) suggests that they can sneak into the barn unseen, and Rand (Josha Stradowski) asks, "Wouldn't it be easier to just ask?"

When the farmer challenges them, Mat (Barney Harris) says that they are just passing through and Thom adds that they will continue on if allowed to remount their horses, but Rand takes the time to tell the truth about their situation and that they had intended to sleep in the barn and leave in the morning. He also notes that how the farmer is holding his bow shows that he doesn't want to shoot. Behind them, surprising the threesome, the farmer's wife (also holding a bow) speaks up, offering the barn for use... once the stables are mucked out.

Answer: The Way of the Leaf

In conversation with Ila, the matriarch of this group of Traveling People, Perrin (Marcus Rutherford) and Egwene (Madeleine Madden) discover that the Tuatha'an follow 'The Way of the Leaf'. Ila explains that they "forswear violence and all instruments of it." and that, "the leaf, in its time, falls to the dirt that nourishes the tree that in its time, grows the leaf again. Nothing is ever lost."

Ila is portrayed by Maria Doyle Kennedy.

Answer: His nephew Owyn

In the books, Owyn was his only living relative, and the only son of his (unnamed) brother. In the show, Thom relates how Owyn began to show signs of madness, which ultimately culminated in his being found by Aes Sedai and gentled, or cut off from the One Power.

Thom continues to explain to Rand that channelers, both male and female, lose the will to live after being gentled (or stilled, for women). His nephew Owyn killed himself by cutting his own throat.

While Mat is being affected by the evil of the dagger from Shadar Logoth, Thom sees similarities to what he witnessed with his nephew, and believes that Mat may actually be able to channel the One Power.

Answer: False

Thom and Rand burst into the farmhouse and see the family members all dead, with Mat standing and staring into the loft as though in a trance. Thom tells Rand to grab him, but before they can move, Mat points up into the loft with the dagger and says "I see you."

At that moment a Fade emerges from the shadows and attacks. Thom jumps to engage with his daggers, allowing Rand and Mat (lucid once again) to escape. Outside, Mat and Rand find the farmer's little girl, also dead. Aghast, they grab their horses and ride away as fast as they can.

The question left for the viewer is whether it was Mat under the dagger's influence or the Fade that killed the family.

Answer: Kerene

Liandrin and Kerene are holding the shield when Logain bursts through it, sending them both flying. Moiraine arrives immediately afterwards and is able to engage Logain in conversation, asking about his claim to be the Dragon Reborn. She keeps him occupied just long enough for the other two Aes Sedai to recover, at which point they all three work to reestablish the shield.

But before Logain can be contained, he strikes out at all three of the Aes Sedai. Kerene is able to counter his attack and block the strikes against Moiraine and Liandrin, but at the cost of leaving herself unprotected, and she is killed.

Answer: Lan's

It is Kerene's Warder, Stepin, who attacks Logain and inadvertently causes the mayhem. In shock, Nynaeve sees Lan bleeding out on the ground and she rushes to his side, trying to stop the bleeding. Raw with emotion, Nynaeve screams, "No!" and produces a blast of healing with the One Power that affects everyone in the room, and not just Lan.

Her display of raw power amazes everyone in the room, including Logain.

In the aftermath, Liandrin calls on all the Aes Sedai present to link their power with hers, and she calls down judgment on Logain and gentles him, cutting him off from the Source.
