Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How long had Lieutenant Harper's lifeboat been in the water when it was picked up by the Canadian boat?

Answer: 18 hours

Despite that, all of the men on board looked severely aged from the time they boarded the vessel.
2. After showing Scully the 65th Parallel connection of the nine disappearances he'd mapped, what experiment did Mulder bring up?

Answer: The Philadelphia Experiment

He told Scully that those scientists had used alien technology to try to make ships invisible for warfare.
3. Who got seasick?

Answer: Mulder

He staggered into the room holding his stomach and Scully asked how he was doing. He commented that he'd gotten his father's sea legs and looked like he might throw up. This later imperiled him; since he was already dehydrated, the aging took effect in him faster than in Scully and Trondheim.
4. How was Halverson killed?

Answer: fractured skull

After finding Halverson, the agents found Captain Barclay. Trondheim assumed Barclay had killed Halverson, but the agents noted that the prematurely aged captain could barely lift a glass, let alone wield an object with enough force to fracture a man's skull. They concluded that there must be another person on board.
5. What did Olafsson hunt?

Answer: whales

He was a known criminal, a pirate whaler who sold the whales on the Asian black market.
6. When Scully asked Mulder what he knew about free-radicals, what did he say in response?

Answer: "Is this a quiz?"

Scully then explained that if there were a meteorite in the ocean, the electromagnetic energy could be activating free-radicals, the element thought by scientists to cause aging.
7. Captain Barclay had said that the ship was bleeding. One of the pipes started to drip a blood-like liquid. What was it?

Answer: rust

Mulder identified it as rust and then he and Scully set off to follow the only pipe unaffected by rust in an attempt to find out why it wasn't aging.
8. What was causing the aging?

Answer: water

The agents followed the yellow pipe to the sewage tank and figured out that the ship's potable water had been contaminated, while the sewage water recycled within itself so was not contaminated. Olafsson told Trondheim the same thing, and Trondheim went to drink out of the toilet.
9. When Trondheim locked Scully out of the sewage tank, effectively blocking her water access, where did she get water?

Answer: sardine tin

She looked through the lockers and kitchen and found a snow globe and sardine tin, and then drained the water out of the sardine tin into a glass jar. She later combined that with lemons and the water from the snow globe. Neither Scully nor Mulder got to drink it, though, as before they could the outer hull of the ship corroded, causing the ship to shake and the jar to fall off the counter and break on the floor.
10. After some recovery in the hospital, Scully made plans with Skinner to return to the ship and research the source of the aging.

Answer: false

The doctor in the Bethesda Naval Hospital informed Scully that the ship had sunk less than an hour after she and Mulder were rescued.
