The episode began with medical officials rushing Kate into an emergency room in order to help her due to a gunshot wound. Lanie and Richard were nearby crying while Richard's daughter and mother showed up. Then, Javier and Kevin also appeared so they could hear about Kate's condition.

In the emergency room, the attending physician stated that he would need Dr. Kovaks paged in order to take over the case. Dr. Kovaks came a short while later to operate on Kate.
