He stated that he was at a fundraiser with about fifty people the previous night and recalled that someone reported that a car had been stolen. The victim's name was revealed to be Laura Cambridge and it was mentioned in one scene that she worked as a professor in literature. It was stated that she was a rising star in the department around the same time that she canceled her cell phone plan and credit cards. The team wondered what that could possibly mean.

Midway through the show, Richard spoke with Kate and Kate mentioned that Lanie finished her report on the victim. Lanie claimed that she was able to find fibers located on the victim's mouth as well as esophagus. The fibers indicated that the killer wore a brown cashmere coat when he/she murdered Laura.

The team found out that Laura has retained a book agent by the name of Trevor Haynes so they went over to speak with him. Trevor stated that Laura was a terrific writer and that she retained his services to pen a book several months ago. He claimed that the book would discuss societal inequity as seen from the working poor.

Richard and Kate saw Laura at a charity event for a nonprofit known as the Reading Train Foundation. This made Kate fear that the killer may have been the mayor since the mayor wore a brown cashmere coat and fibers from a similar coat had been found on Laura's dead body.
