Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Lorelai sat down onto Lane, who was sleeping on her couch.

Answer: True

Lane had followed Rory home from Yale and crashed on their couch. Lorelai was up and commentating on how cold the house was, thinking she was talking to Rory. It wasn't until Rory came out (and she sat on Lane) that Lorelai realized it was a case of mistaken identity.

When she asked Rory who it was bundled up on their couch, Rory suggested maybe it was Robert Downey Jr. Lorelai gingerly lifted the blanket, saw Lane, and said something like "I think this belongs to you."
2. Why was it so cold in Lorelai's house during those opening scenes?

Answer: broken window

Lorelai explained to Rory she'd broken the window herself trying to lock it the night before. Rory suggested that she call a repair man, but Lorelai said she had to allow Luke to repair it to avoid hurting his feelings. When he did come to repair it later, he'd been drinking.

He climbed the tree and fell from the tree in Lorelai's yeard. He still claimed to have entered her house by her unlocked bedroom window on the second floor, and then proceeded to cut himself on the broken window.
3. Did Lorelai compare Jess to Rocky Balboa?

Answer: Yes

Lorelai and Rory sat in font of their open stove in order to keep warm while drinking their coffee. Lorelai inquired as to what Rory was thinking, in case Rory wanted to talk about the sudden reappearance of Jess Mariano. Rory said she was thinking about "nothing". So, Lorelai asked if "nothing" wore a leather jacket and could pull off a convincing "Adrian!"
4. Which word or phrase was Kirk misusing in his walkie-talkie conversations?

Answer: Roger

For some reason Kirk believed he was supposed to say "roger" at the end of each transmission. Joe radioed back that he was not supposed to say "roger" at the end of each transmission because the word represented the phrase "I heard you." In essence, Joe would be the one to say "roger" to Kirk after Kirk was done, but that did not stop Kirk from constantly using this word.

He even used it when conversing with Jess on Jess' trek over to Gypsy's auto shop.
5. Taylor left Kirk in charge of the Stars Hollow Firelight Festival.

Answer: True

Taylor had not been seen in the last couple of episodes, and no reason was given as to where he had disappeared to. It did seem odd that Taylor would entrust his beloved festival to Kirk, but Kirk was able to pull it off despite a few times he faced harassment.
6. Finish this quote. Jess to Gypsy: "It has to be today. I have to get out of this half-mile, four block, freak hole of a ______ _____."

Answer: medical experiment

Jess really wanted to avoid Rory at all costs. She explained to him he needed a new carburetor and he could have it by that night. She'd also told him he needed lots of money because she planned to over charge him. As he turned away from Gypsy, he thought he'd spotted Rory. She told him that it wasn't Rory, because Rory had cut her hair.
7. Did Emily call Lorelai for help filling her table at the Rare Manuscript Acquisition Fundraiser?

Answer: Yes

Emily was four people short of filling her table for the event and told Lorelai to bring someone with her. She never specified it had to be a man, and Lorelai came with Rory. Emily told Lorelai not to wear pantyhose with a seam up the back because it made her look like "10 cents a dance".
8. According to Patty, she'd been ignoring Kirk since when?

Answer: he was old enough to walk

She and Kirk walked into Luke's while Kirk was filling her in on some festival details. She was being perfectly agreeable, though she was not really paying attention to anything he said. When he asked if she was ignoring him, she explained she had been doing so since he was old enough to walk.
9. T.J, Liz's boyfriend, was really named Gary.

Answer: True

When he met Luke he wanted Luke to guess what T.J. stood for. Luke guessed Thomas Jefferson, but did not find out until the end of the episode his name was really Gary. Gary and Liz were going to be heading out for a fair in Minnesota very soon.
10. At the end of this episode, Rory and Jess finally speak. She does all the talking, demanding to know what he could have to say for himself after leaving a year prior. What was his response?

Answer: I love you

Jess and Rory had spotted each other on two previous occasions, and Jess had run away each time. Finally, Rory sees him at the festival and decides to leave the scene first. She said "I get to leave first" and "my town, I leave." When he gets her to stop running away she takes over and explains she'd thought a lot about this day, what Jess could possibly say after a year's time.
She ends her monologue with: "What do you have to say to me?"
He replies with "I love you" and then gets into his car and drives away.
