The episode began with someone in a dark, secluded room making some observations. Just then, something crept up on this person that caused him to scream. However, at the same time as he screamed, Richard and Alexis were also seen screaming at a horror show they were watching.

Richard got a page that someone had died so he went off to the crime scene to see what the investigation would do. He spoke with Kate about the horror show he loved and mentioned the name of Jack Sinclair who was affiliated with the show. Kate informed him that ironically Jack Sinclair was the victim. Lanie was at the scene as well and confirmed that he died due to complications as a result of being slashed in the throat.

Near the beginning, Javier and Kevin were at the precinct talking about the case when they mentioned the dinner they arranged with Jenny and Lanie. Kevin stated how he could not wait since he wanted Jenny to get to know Lanie. Javier advised Kevin to be careful since Lanie would be coming off a double shift before the dinner so she might be cranky.

While the team was at the crime scene, a person arrived there and mentioned that the name of the place where Jack was killed was named the McClaren House.
