Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The pilot episode began with a scene at Central Perk. Who arrived there wearing a wedding gown?

Answer: Rachel

Starting the tradition of all episode titles, the pilot is known as "The One Where It All Began" or "The One Where Monica Gets a Roommate". The show started with Monica, Chandler, Joey and Phoebe hanging out at Central Perk. Ross arrived to join them and all of a sudden, they were surprised to see a woman in a wedding gown enter the place.

It turned out to be Rachel, Monica's high school friend and Ross' former crush. Rachel had left her fiance at the altar and run away from her own wedding. When her father cut her off, Monica offered to take her in as a roommate.
2. Which friend often performed at Central Perk during the initial seasons?

Answer: Phoebe

At the beginning of the series, Phoebe was shown to be a musician, though she also held a variety of other jobs, as her music skills were somewhat suspect. She was often shown performing at Central Perk. Her best known original song was "Smelly Cat" about an unloved cat. For a brief period, Phoebe was replaced by a "real" singer at Central Perk and she commented on how this one maybe actually getting paid.

This cameo was played by Chrissie Hynde of "The Pretenders".
3. Which on-again, off-again couple had their first real kiss at Central Perk in season 2?

Answer: Ross and Rachel

At the end of season 1, Rachel had finally found out about Ross' feelings for her. Realizing that she felt the same way, she had decided to tell him about it, only to find out that he had started dating someone else. Flash forward a few episodes into the next season where unable to get over this, she ended up leaving a message on Ross' phone.

This made Ross realize that Rachel cared for him too. He turned up at Central Perk where Rachel was working at closing time. They had an argument and Ross stormed out only to have Rachel lock the door after him.

They stared at each other through the closed door, till Rachel opened it and they shared their first real kiss. Over the next eight seasons, they continued to get together and break up multiple times, even getting married while drunk in Las Vegas, and having a baby together later in the show.
4. Which recurring character, who worked at Central Perk, had a crush on Rachel?

Answer: Gunther

Gunther was shown as a Central Perk employee right from season 1, but his character was developed only in subsequent seasons. He was the manager of Central Perk and was shown as having a crush on Rachel, who worked there initially. He never confessed his feelings to Rachel until the last episode when she was planning to move to Paris.

The other options are all exes of other characters - Carol (Ross), Richard (Monica) and David (Phoebe).
5. In season 3, there was a flashback to a time before the six friends got together. What kind of establishment was the Central Perk location then?

Answer: Bar

In "The One With The Flashback", the friends, all except Rachel, discussed how they first met Joey. Joey entered the group after he became roommates with Chandler. The flashback was set three years in the past and it was shown that the location of Central Perk was then a bar. During the episode, the characters talked about how the bar was due to be shut down and turned into a coffee shop.
6. Rachel worked at Central Perk during the initial seasons. Which other friend also worked as a server there later in the show?

Answer: Joey

Joey was an actor with his most memorable role being that of Dr. Drake Ramoray on the soap opera "Days of Our Lives". In an interview, he claimed that he heavily improvised on his lines and character arc. This angered the writers of the soap and they had the character killed by falling down an elevator shaft. Joey was forced to take a job as a waiter at Central Perk for a brief period when he was unable to get any other major acting roles. Incidentally, Gunther revealed that he was also a former actor having played the role of Bryce on "All My Children" before he was killed off in an avalanche.

Rachel worked as a waitress at Central Perk in the beginning till she found a career to pursue. While Phoebe did perform at Central Perk during the initial seasons, it was implied that she wasn't paid, rather just allowed to sing there. None of the others worked at Central Perk.
7. Whom did some of the other friends suspect of being the father of Rachel's unborn baby and invite to Central Perk to surprise her?

Answer: Tag

Rachel found out she was pregnant during Monica and Chandler's wedding, but she didn't reveal the identity of the father. Joey then remembered finding a red sweater a month ago and believed it belonged to the baby's father. Phoebe identified it as belonging to Tag, a younger guy who Rachel had dated previously.

The friends arranged for Tag to turn up and meet Rachel at Central Perk, hoping it would prompt Rachel to tell him about the baby. However, when he entered and took off his jacket, he was seen to be wearing his red sweater! At the end, Ross suddenly saw the sweater in Monica and Chandler's apartment and stated that he had been looking for it for a month, revealing to the friends and the audience who the father was.
8. Which friend found a date for Phoebe by yelling "Mike" randomly inside Central Perk?

Answer: Joey

In episode 3 of season 9, Phoebe and Joey agreed to set each other up on blind dates. In typical Joey fashion he completely forgot about it. Trying to cover up, he stood and yelled "Mike!" inside Central Perk. Luckily for him, Mike Hannigan, played by Paul Rudd, happened to be around and answered his call. Eventually Mike and Phoebe fell in love and got married in the final season.
9. What caused Phoebe's wedding ceremony to take place outside Central Perk?

Answer: Snowstorm

Phoebe and Mike were set to get married when a blizzard threw their wedding arrangements out of order. Upset, Phoebe decided to call off the wedding, when Rachel suggested that they have the ceremony outside Central Perk. The snow made a beautiful backdrop to the wedding. Joey filled in for the minister who was unable to make it, having first been ordained to marry Chandler and Monica. Chandler walked Phoebe down the aisle, a role that Joey was supposed to perform originally.

In the end, Phoebe had her perfect wedding, with all her friends around on her special day.
10. Did the last scene of the show take place at Central Perk?

Answer: No

In the last scene of the series, all the six friends were gathered in Chandler and Monica's apartment, reminiscing about the times they'd spent there. It turned out that every one of them lived there at some point, making it hard to say goodbye to the place.

The friends placed their keys at the counter and talked of going to grab a coffee together. The last line of the show was when Chandler jokingly asked, "Where?".
