Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 2003, US TV network ABC aired a wonderful new series dealing in religious faith, ESP powers, and possible madness. The show was lost amid the airing of war time footage and newscasts and cancelled before the 13 original episodes were all shown. Paul, Alva, Evelyn, and Father Calero were the main characters.

Answer: Miracles

"Miracles" starred "Scream" alum Skeet Ulrich as Paul Callan, Angus MacFadyen as Alva Keel, Marisa Ramirez as Evelyn, and Hector Elizondo
as Father Calero. Paul is an investigator of alleged miracles. He gets a little work worn and decides to take time off from this job, so he goes to Arizona to work on a reservation. While there Father Calero asks him to investigate a boy that it is said to heal people. Tommy can heal, but he is dying and every time he heals someone he gets worse. His last act of healing is when Paul almost dies in a car crash. As he heals Paul, Paul sees the words "God Is Now Here' written in blood. After Paul meets Alva Keel, he learns he is not the only person to have experienced this phenomenon. Only, the others all reported the bloody text to be 'God is Nowhere'. Alva suspects it is the devil at work, and that Paul and this demon/devil are inexorably connected. Paul does not know who his father is, and wonders more and more what truth lies in wait for him. Sadly, after six episodes the show is dismissed from the line up and we never found out.
Showtime's "Dead Like Me" began its second season in July 2004.
2. In 2001, six episodes of this show were aired. It was set in a haunted hospital in Boston. Dr. Philomena Cullen, Dr. Brad Sterling, Dr. Nicole De Brae, Glory St. Claire, and Dr. Mitchell Grace are its main characters.

Answer: All Souls

The cast was set in Boston's All Souls Hospital. Daniel Cosgrove (Matt Durning '90210') played Dr. Sterling, Grayson McCouch (Morgan Winthrop 'Another World') played Dr. Grace, Reiko Aylesworth (Michelle Dessler '24') played Dr. Cullen, and Irma Hall (Mama Joe 'Soul Food') played nurse Glory.
3. "The Others" took us on a 13 episode journey in 2000. A young woman named Marian has visions of what lies on the "other side". She joins a group of people with similar paranormal abilities. In episode 8, "Don't Dream It's Over", a well known writer of horror fiction makes a guest appearance. Which one of these played George Hutchinson?

Answer: Clive Barker

Some of his more famous works are "Hellraiser", "The Thief of Always", "Candyman", and "Nightbreed". Actress Julianne Nicholson
played Marian Kitt. In 1999 she played Cat Withers in the mini-series "Storm of the Century", written by Stephen King.
4. The year is 1995. The season of "American Gothic". Sheriff Buck, Caleb Temple, Deputy Healy, and Selena Coombs live in a town filled with secrets, a town called ______.

Answer: Trinity

A small town is always full of secrets! Sheriff Lucas Buck (Gary Cole) is the real father of Caleb Temple (Lucas Black). There is an underlying feeling that old Lucas may not be entirely human. When Caleb's cousin comes to his aid and falls for Lucas, the complications are compounded even more. Lucas Black has had a string of roles in his career.

He played one of the Lipnicki boys in 1994's "The War" with Kevin Costner and Elijah Wood; he played young Frank opposite Billy Bob Thornton's Karl in "Slingblade"; he played Stevie, the first one seen infected, in the "X Files" movie in 1998; and Oakley in the 2003 Academy Award nominated "Cold Mountain".
5. In 1998 this began airing its only season, after being a movie of cult following. A mythical superhero rights the wrongs they experienced by helping others in need.

Answer: The Crow: Stairway to Heaven

While "The Net" did air for one season in 1998, Angela Bennett was no superhero. While Buffy Summers was a superhero, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" began airing in 1997 and lasted 7 seasons. "The Incredible Hulk" was a big screen movie in 2003, but the tv series of the same name first aired in 1978. Martial arts expert Mark Dacascos played Eric Draven, the Crow, in this season long series.
6. 1999 sees Lt. Hobbes trapped inside a dangerous world of virtual military combat. There are no rules, no reason, no real way out. There comes a point when Hobbes realizes that in order to escape his _____ _____, he must complete his mission.

Answer: Harsh Realm

Nine episodes aired, but the Fox network cancelled this intriguing series after episode 3. "Party of Five" alum Scott Bairstow played Thomas Hobbes. Scott played the abusive boyfriend of Neve Campbell's "PO5" character Julia Salinger. He played Marty Stouffer Jr. in "Wild America" in 1997 and opposite Kevin Costner in "The Postman".
7. My 2001 series "Level 9" ironically aired just nine of our 13 total episodes. I played a hacker named Roland. I also guest-starred on some other shows of paranormal content. Among them "Buffy The Vampire Slayer", "Beyond Reality", and "Poltergeist: The Legacy". Who am I?

Answer: Fab Filippo

He played one of Buffy's brief romantic interests in season 3 of "BTVS". He was in the 1996 tv series "Lush Life" and later in "Queer as Folk". Willie Garson played Carrie's close friend on HBO's "Sex and the City"; Jason Hall played rocker Devon on "Buffy"; and Martin Cummins was on "Poltergeist: The Legacy", but did guest star on "Level 9".
8. Characters John Byers, Melvin Frohike, and Ringo Langly helped to create this 2001 spin-off of the "X-Files".

Answer: The Lone Gunmen

I figured this may very well be the easiest question in the quiz.
Bruce Harwood (John Fitzgerald Byers) also guest starred on "MacGyver", "The Outer Limits" and "Andromeda". Tom Braidwood (Melvin Frohike) had guest spots on "21 Jumpstreet", "Viper" and "Cold Squad". Dean Haglund (Richard 'Ringo' Langly) can be seen in "The Commish", "VIP" and his voice heard in two "X-Files" video games.
9. In 2001 we experienced werewolves in a Washington state suburb. The series switched television networks in America, and managed to air 9 episodes. John Kanin, Tyler Creed, and Sheriff Matthew Donner make up just a few of the main characters.

Answer: Wolf Lake

Lou Diamond Phillips, Tim Matheson, and Scott Bairstow play the above characters. The series was filmed in Canada, and despite its short lifespan received two Emmy nominations in 2002.
10. Lorenzo Lamas tried his hand at mythical superhero in the year 2000. Twenty-two episodes later it was all over. As "The Immortal," his character Rafe was cursed/blessed by his wife's ________ with immortality as long as the demons who killed her walked the Earth. Rafe was to rid the world of demons, so the possibility for a long series was there. Which goes in the blank?

Answer: father

The series begins around 300 years after the father-in-law bestows Rafe with immortality. Like many superheroes, Rafe has a sidekick and this person is also an immortal. Rafe and his pal Goodwin join up with a parapsychologist to work against demons in the modern world.

When his wife was killed, these creatures kidnapped his daughter. Believe it or not, 300 hundred years later he is still trying to get her back. Steve Braun played sidekick to Lamas' Rafe. Lamas is best known to me as Lance Cumson in the 9 season run of the primetime soap opera "Falcon Crest".

Others may be more familiar with his role from 1992-1997 on "Renegade".
11. The year is 1985, so think back now. There was a shrinking man, an electrified former rock musician, and a young woman who could move things with her mind. They fight crime, led by a scientist with no paranormal abilities. Who are these people?

Answer: Misfits of Science

Dean Paul Martin, son of legendary crooner Dean Martin, played the leader Dr. Hayes. Tragically Dean "Dino" Martin was killed in a 1987 jet crash. He and ice skating champion Dorothy Hamill were married for 2 years in the early 1980s. Future "Friends" phenom Courteney Cox played the teen-aged telekinetic Gloria.

At 7 feet 2 inches, Kevin Peter Hall portrayed the man with the ability to shrink down to 7 inches for a short time frame. He also played Harry in the short lived tv series "Harry and the Hendersons" in 1990 and 1991.

He died of AIDS in 1991. He contracted the disease from a blood transfusion months earlier.
12. My son was kidnapped and my marriage fell apart. I experienced a near death as a police officer, retired, and became a private eye. After my short death, I began to see dead people. Sometimes I was able to help them, and sometimes I was not. For some reason the Fox network cancelled my show after only 7 episodes aired in 2002. The show as called _________.

Answer: Haunted

Matthew Fox, "Party of Five" elder sibling Charlie, played Frank Taylor. He's haunted by the ghosts he can see, and tortured by the memory of his young son. A child taken by a serial killer. Lynn Collins played Frank's ex-wife, and sometime collaborator, ADA Jessica Manning.
13. In the 2002 mystery "John Doe", John is searching for his wife's killer.

Answer: False

No, of course not. He is searching for his identity. John awakens with the knowledge to seemingly everything in the world, except who he really is. He helps solve wild crimes each week. The show is similar to "The Pretender", except in that show the main character, Jarod, is searching for his family. Both men are beyond genius and seem to solve any mysterious crime. Dominic Purcell portrays John and Michael T. Weiss played Jarod in "The Pretender".
14. This show lasted 4 episodes in 2004. For some unknown reason, various objects begin communicating with the main character. They goad her into preforming tasks, which have various outcomes that she does not always realize. The series begins in a gift shop in the Niagara Falls area.

Answer: Wonderfalls

Though I gave it a chance, I was not overly interested in this series. The main character's personality was little too dry for me, which is ironic because I adore "Dead Like Me". The main character on that series, George, also has a very dry sense of humor. I was hooked on "Dead Like Me" as soon as she explained she'd been killed by a toilet falling from the space station.

The adorable Caroline Dhavernas played Jaye, the very confused main character in "Wonderfalls".
15. Ok, hop into the "way back machine" one more time. In 1982, actor Peter Barton played a prince sent to Earth in a time of rebellion on his planet. He arrived with a friend and protector, and both men first found refuge in the local high-school. He as a student and the friend (played by Louis Gossett Jr.) as a teacher. The show was called "The Powers of Matthew Star". Which of these were never one of Matthew's powers during its one season?

Answer: Vanishing

Matthew also acquired the power of transmutation before the series' end. Peter Barton went on to spend six years on "The Young and the Restless" as Scott Grainger. He had some guest spots on "The Love Boat", "The Fall Guy", and "Baywatch". I've read on both imdb.com and in "TV Guide" that Tom Cruise also auditioned for the role of Matthew (first named Daniel) Star.
