Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. One housemate from "Big Brother 5" did not receive any nominations at all during their stay in the house. Who was that popular housemate?

Answer: Stuart

Stuart Wilson must have been rather popular with his fellow housemates, as he received not one single nomination. No other housemate from all five seasons had ever achieved this before. History of Art student Shell Jubin only received 2 nominations, whilst Jason Cowan was nominated the most with 14.
2. For the final Saturday challenge on 31st July 2004, "Big Brother" gave the housemates a real treat. Lined up in the diary room were ten shots of rather tasty substances which the housemates had to drink to earn £10,000 towards their prize fund. There were six glasses of fish gut puree, two glasses of salt water and two glasses of what?

Answer: Cod liver oil

The housemates surprisingly passed this task. There was of course a lot of retching and vomiting afterwards, but Nadia downed one shot of salt water and one shot of cod liver oil, Dan managed one shot of salt water before rushing to the bathroom, Stuart gamely drank three glasses of fish gut puree and one cod liver oil, whilst Jason cheerfully swallowed three shots of the fish gut puree. Only Shell declined to take part in the task, but no matter, the sum of £10,000 increased the prize money to a most reasonable £63,500.
3. "Big Brother" amused itself during the final week of series 5 by playing various mind games with the housemates. On day 68 Nadia spotted a hoax newspaper deliberately planted behind a window. What was the fake headline on that newspaper?

Answer: "BB Mole Tops Poll"

Nadia quickly drew the attention of the other housemates to the fake newspaper, which promptly got them speculating on who the "Big Brother" mole could be. Of course there was no mole or planted housemate, this was just another trick being played by this year's more playful "Big Brother".
4. On the 3rd August the housemates were given a mini task. They had to put into a time capsule a DNA sample, something that was invaluable during their time in the house and a self portrait. What item did Jason put into the capsule that contained his DNA?

Answer: Earwax

Other objects put into the capsule included gel hair spray, a cigarette lighter, a hair bobble and a herbal remedy. After putting their respective items into the time capsule, the housemates then buried it under a tree in the "Big Brother" garden. For some reason Shell decided to name the tree Flower, although I am not really sure why! As the task was quite easily passed, "Big Brother" rewarded the housemates by giving them a party that evening.
5. Living up to its new evil persona, "Big Brother" staged a surprise mid-week eviction which saw Stuart evicted from the house without even the chance to say goodbye or put on his best clothes. What song was being played in the house when Stuart was called to the diary room to receive the bad news?

Answer: We Are Family

None of the housemates had a clue what the evil all-seeing one was up to. While they happily partied in the house, the votes were being counted, and as Stuart had received the least votes to win, he had to leave the house. He looked absolutely stunned when he walked outside to see the waiting crowd, who were actually cheering for the first time in this series.

When the remaining four housemates heard the sound of cheering they thought at first that Stuart had won, but "Big Brother" later confirmed to Jason that Stuart had in fact been evicted.
6. For their last full day in the 2004 "Big Brother" house, the housemates staged an awards ceremony. Which award was won by Jason?

Answer: Most vain housemate

Jason, known for his constant looking at himself in the mirrors, spent hours in the bathroon preening and buffing, at one time clocking over four hours in just one session. Nadia, voted the best dressed housemate, could often be seen actually wearing her high heels as she took a shower. Teenage viewers pin-up Stuart was of course voted the best looking housemate, whilst Shell earned herself the award for biggest crybaby.
7. The final "Big Brother" show was shown live on Friday 6th August. Which housemate was in fourth place?

Answer: Shell

Shell was not in the slightest bit shy, and took part in the various games and tasks with gusto. Included in her "Big Brother" highlights were cooking a dinner whilst wearing only an apron, mowing the lawn while wearing just a long scarf to protect her modesty and a couple of mud wrestling sessions.
8. When Dan left the house he told hostess Davina McColl that he had overcome his fear of what whilst in the house?

Answer: Moths

Hairdresser Dan Bryan was the house mediator, and was tipped to win during the early days of the show. He was eventually voted into third place. Party loving Dan was also a DJ, and sang with a band called Icehouse in his spare time.
9. Housemate Jason left the house to a few boos from the crowd, as well as cheers. What did Davina McColl say to Jason as she met him at the door?

Answer: "It's all panto"

Series five of "Big Brother" seemed to attract more boos from the crowds then any previous season. Davina could be heard at each eviction assuring the rejected housemate that "It's all panto" or "It's just a pantomime". Jason, who had been hotly tipped to leave the show in previous weeks, surprised a lot of viewers by becoming the 2004 runner-up.
10. What nationality was the winner of "Big Brother 5", Nadia Almada?

Answer: Portuguese

It was a highly emotional finish to a very controversial series. Nadia, who had kept the secret of her sex change from her fellow housemates, left the house in tears and visibly shaking. As the other housemates and the crowds cheered, Nadia was reunited with her mother, whom she had not seen since before her sex change operation in 2003. Throughout the series "Big Brother 5" received a lot of negative coverage in the media, with much debate on the subjects of violence, swearing, nudity, transsexuals and gruesome tasks.

The fans loved it all though, and over six million of them tuned in to watch the final.
