Patrick Macnee was John Steed that worked for British Intelligence and always had a pretty lady as his assistant. "The Avengers" started in 1961 with Steed being the assistant to Dr. David Keel. After Dr.Keel (Ian Henry) left, John Steed became the main man and his first assistant was Cathy Gale played by Honor Blackman who was subsequently replaced by Emma Peel played by Diana Rigg who in turn was replaced by Tara King played Linda Thorson.
